The Spider and the Honeybee
« on: July 21, 2019, 12:53:15 pm »
All summer we have had a spider web attached just under a floodlight on our deck.  Every night when it is last call for the pup, I turn on the light, step out on the deck and check out the evening’s goings on.  As soon as the light goes on, the bugs start flying in and hit the web.  We like to think we are keeping the spider well fed.  Along with the moths, etc some of our honeybees (that must have a screw loose) fly into the web.  Many break free but the ones that struggle, the spider rushes down to encase the bee in it’s webbing.  To my surprise the first night I saw this, the spider slams on it’s brakes once it sees it’s a bee and won’t attempt a wrap.  Night after the same thing happens.  Guess this spider knows better.  Here is a video I captured.

If you have night flyers often, you may want to check this site out.
