What lesson? I really don't know except that maybe smoking the hive before inspection DOES NOT guarantee a calm hive. I submit exhibit A. Begin laughing........................now!

Yep, she got me right on the lower lip. As if I had to tell that.
-
Lesson: Don't do botox! Now tell us what happened at the hive.
-
Chef Unknown saw that, and immediately contacted me and said that this was just for you for posting the sting pic!
He said it will help with the swelling! ;)

Ouch! Mess with bees long enough and it is bound to happen. Seems like we all get a "perfect storm" every so often. Hope the swelling goes down quickly....
-
Ice cream! Just what the doctor ordered. Thanks Perry! I will tell my wife that the internet said it was the best thing for lower lip bee stings. :)
-
OUCH Tbone.. made my eyes water thinking about that one.
-
Well, ya know what they say. You can't trade horses or keep bees without gitting stung one in a while.

I wish I could take the credit but I am merely the messenger! ;)

You know if its on the Internet it has to be true!

Heheheheheheheheheh.....sorry, that is funny though...

there's a couple more components to a somewhat calm hive besides smoke.
a clear sunny day.
mid morning to early afternoon.
and a calm demeanor around the hive.
if you don't believe that bring the smoke with you, you'll need it. open the hive up at about 7:30 p.m., better if its a drizzle and slam the equipment around while you're doing it. I do believe that will teach you the merits of what I've been saying, further you're only need to do with once to get that lesson lol.

Ouch! Hope the swelling goes down fast but I'll bet it'll take more than one bowl of ice cream.
-
You won't forget that one anytime soon! Aye Carumba!
-
Awe Tbone! What a bummer! I have only known my hive to be content during June, July, Aug, maybe Sept. During my first couple of inspections this spring have been at the least 'testy' ~ I'm thinking it's the time of year ~
-
Hey Jen, I hope that's all it is. Much more like this and I will be wearing my bee jacket all the time. I can just imagine the poor girl right before hitting me saying "kiss my a**!" And then I did.
-
LOL LOL That'll Teach Ya! But really, I should be careful cause ya never know which one of us is gonna get hit by one of the ladies in a sensitive spot!

I'll buy this.
I'm pretty mild mannered but when I'm mad I'm mad all over so to speak. Once after reading a disturbing news story I had my dander up. Walking down to the hives I could have bit 10 penny nails in two.
The next morning I had to let my cap out several notches to get it on my head!

ATT I TUDE !!

Bees also panic they get caught up in your hair in your clothing under your fingers and in trying to free them you press on them causing the bees to plant their stinger.
Got 3 stings on Saturday the first on the back of the wrist bee on the back of my hand and when I moved the wrist my jacket cuff pressed on the back of the bee causing the bee to panic and sting. the next as a bee flying into my forehead and ending up behind my glasses frame on the bridge of my nose. while trying to remove my glasses to free her she panicked and stung me on my bridge between the eyes. The third she was on the inside of my shirt walking around. Had 3 up my shirt managed to free 2 but pulled the material to tight giving another bee room to escape, she felt confined panicked and stung. non of them came on the attack to sting me, their defensive reaction took over when the felt trapped.
A bees buzzing in your hair is more likely trying to free itself by trying to fly towards the light and out of your hair.
I would of posted sympathy photos but there as nothing to see. A red dot where the stinger went in and less than 1/8th inch of swelling.
-
Man, the one between the eyes would probably have closed both my eyes by morning. :o
-
Really Guys! it's so simple. Just put one bee on, once a week or every two weeks, all year long and you won't have the swelling and itch anymore.
-
Well, Jen, at the rate I'm going, no problem! ;D
-
I don't purposely get stung, but also don't take any precautions against it neither. Like wearing a suit, veil, gloves, light colored clothing, tucking in shirts doing up the top 3 buttons.
-
If I'm going to be tearing a hive down to check out the brood boxes, I put my veiled bee shirt on. But often in the summer when the bees are very busy and happy, I'm in my tshirt and jeans.
-
heheh, I pulled the tele covers and foam today in a t shirt.. was 62 Degrees.. Broke the first sweat of the year. Mostly I started to sweat when I realized I had my BLACK T shirt on... They didn't care,, they were as happy to be OUT as I was to see them out.

i find my bees are little angels, except in the spring. I figure all those winter bees sit around for 4 months just getting grumpy. That and nobody bugs them all winter and they get used to it. It takes at least a month in the spring for all those wintered bees to cycle out.

I don’t get what’s wrong with the picture? My lips look like that normally.
I did get nailed in the eyebrow and that eye swelled shut. I was joking at work that ‘when your wife says no she means it’. I got called in for a 1:1 with my boss! He was going to go all cowboy on me and I had to come clean.
