Knocked out one of my goals for the year: finish building them dang chairs! I do a bit of woodworking in winter and have been turning wood into boxes for the last few. This last winter I have as much dead as alive so no point in building more. Stack of last year’s supers have never seen a hive. I messed up somewhere on the jig to drill the holes in the seat adjustments so I will have to turn some pegs that are larger in diameter where the chair backs hit. Now I just need to find a place to get upholstery done.

I have to take pictures of the two chairs we have in our front room. I swear they are exactly like the ones you just built!
We bought them used and had them re-upholstered and we love them!

No, it is a product that has leather in it, but it is not the "real" thing.
Seriously, you should be incredibly happy with yours, and the fact that you made those beauties yourself is priceless. I wish I had that kind of talent.

Very nice looking chairs. Most people don't realize the amount of different you can get in the color of walnut. It is such a pretty wood with a wonderful grain, unlike all the cheaper light colored wood that have been coated with a dark walnut colored stain.

Had an uncle that was a furniture salesman and manager of a furniture store. He said to lift the furniture before you buy it or you may just be buying a light weight pretty finish. 8) Jack

I guess you are supposed to steam the wood to get the sap wood to turn dark, but I liked the contrast. The other part is that it was a producing tree where they graft English (for the nuts) to the black (strong large trunks) so the branches are kept off the black and the graft point is a cool looking grain where the light and dark hit. Problem is they dry at different rates (check or crack at the seam).
