A Lady called me about 5:00 pm this afternoon and said she had a swarm in her yard. It took me about 10 minutes to get there. The swarm was only about 3 feet high. Shookem` off in my trusty go getem` box, put the top on, opened the entrance a little, gave the stragglers about 10 minutes, closed the entrance and came home. I haven`t finished my 3rd box yet, so I put them in a 2 ft top bar box that I was using for a swarm trap. It has 16 bars. I`m gonna finish the hive tomorrow and get them swapped out in a day or two. I forgot to take any pictures except when I put them in the small hive and was watching the stragglers go to it. For whatever reason it won`t let me download the pic, directly or either through photobucket. Oh well.

I would never say ""I told you so"". :D

Skeeter, is there a bee warehouse near you? like Dadant, or Mann Lake?

LOL
Addiction can be caused by more than artificial drugs.
I'd let them start building in that small box. when you get the big one done you can transfer the bars. Welcome to beekeeping!!!!

Once you have the numbers you think you want, start selling off a couple and use the dough to buy more gear, it sounds like you are going to need it! ;)

Man, I need to get my traps out! If I don't, I'm going to miss out on the fun!

Dang Tbone!! get after it!! swarm season has to be going pretty well down in Texas by now.
I usually put my boxes/traps out here the weekend after my birthday. Pretty easy way to remember to do it.

Awesome, well done!

Lazy- ""I usually put my boxes/traps out here the weekend after my birthday."'
K, so..... if your birthday is in May, and you put your traps out in May....
And, if my mother hive swarmed mid March.... thinking... and if bees actually start planning a swarm weeks in advance.... gathering wool.... that means that I should have traps out in the middle of February? REALLY?
I gonna need a plan for next year, because swarms came waaay too early this year ~

We don't usually have swarms starting until early May in this neck of the woods. My birthday just makes a convenient way to remember to get it done before the swarm season starts.
Where your at, you will indeed need to have traps out earlier. Weather plays a big role. IIRC the jet stream had your area warmer than usual while the rest of us were in the deep freeze.
