Title: Moved my bees
Post by: vossejongk on April 07, 2014, 05:32:42 pm
So a week ago I moved the ladies from the bee stand where the rest of the beekeepers have their hives to my aunt & uncles land. There was a beekeeper before hence the little stall my uncle build a few years ago but he got ill and had to quit bees unfortunately. I thought it was nice to share a couple of photos of the surroundings and I hope the ladies like it here :) hopefully I'll add a 2nd hive soon making a split from the one that's there now. Unfortunately I don't know all the English names for  the flora but probably most of you do :)

The bee stand with some small willows along the field.

Turn 90 degrees left, there's about 60 willows along this path. Also the brown stuff are old wild flowers which my uncle seeds every year end of April ish, depends on the weather and temps.

Far out in the field there's a massive patch of wild flowers he seeds as well, approx 200 by 400 metres. It's still brown now but they're on vacation and he'll plow and seed it when they come back.

Left rear of the stall there is this row of willows, about 15 of them and they are a bit older and larger then the first ones I showed.

There's a number of bushes which carry these flowers, I have no idea what they are but the bees absolutely love it :)

If that's not all there are also these 4 (or are there 5?) pretty big Acacia (that's the Dutch name at least) trees and as far as I know the honey from those is delicious :D

All in all I'm really happy with my new location and I hope the bees are as well :)

Beautiful area. You are very lucky to have a place like that for the bees.

As for the names, if you can find the Latin names we can convert them to the English names.

VERY nice area. I bet that area would support quite a few hives...     ;D

It looks like they have lots of empty (not built up with buildings) land to feast on.  I'm sure they'll love it!

Lots of green space, they should be happy.

Looks a good site.

It is nice to be able to drive near to the hives.

If the field in front is worked then a worker could have problems with bees exiting on a low flight path.

He knows the bees are there and they work with closed cabin tractors :) having the car next to the hive is a great help, as I don't want to keep my equipment there since everyone can access it :)

I also found some of the Latin names, the willow is called Salix Alba and the acacia's name is Robinia pseudoacacia :)
