Got a call that the swarm that was high was still there today. So I loaded up and took a lite bow and was going to shake them out. I got there about 4:45 and the wife said they were there at 4:30 I showed them to the owner of the house. I seen a few scout bees going east and coming back. I told her they apparently went that way and pointed toward the east. She said there they are...and low and behold they were only about 7 feet off the ground. Knocked on the door and let the folks know who I was and asked if I could catch that swarm of honey bees in their front yard. They gave me permission so I started setting up my Little Giant Ladder so I could get the box under them. Got most in the first shake. And with a little bee begone got the rest air borne and the took to the box very easily. Got only a couple quick pictures that I will post in a bit.
Good news is I got the swarm, did not find the queen but I am sure she is there by the way the bees went into the hive. Bad news is this swarm was only about half the size of the one I could not reach on friday. Not sure where the rest went. The original lady and the landlord said the swarm at 4:30 was about the size of a basket ball the one I got was about the size of a volley ball. At any point the landlord owns several house and said I will get the first right of refusal if any honey bees show up at any of his properties. Bee back in a bit with the pictures and the home occupant said she took several pictures she will forward to me of the original and the other one. Tom

Fantastic! Sounds like a more than one win there. That is how I build my opportunities and referrals. Just like that! One dead end turns into several open passage ways. ;D

The box was just one I had handy when the call came in and they are now in a new box with a frame feeder filled with sugar water. Tom

Nice catch, and even nicer open door for opportunity!

Well still have not received any other pictures yet. Went down this morning and pulled all the old comb and put in new foundation except for two frames. Did the same for last fridays swarm. while I had the lids off it appears both colonies are of the same size. They cover about 2 1/2 frames and then have some bees spread out....Hoping that they both get strong enough this year to make it through the winter. Tom
