OK even old keeps make mistakes but this one has to rank near the top on mistakes for me. The wife came out to the shop today and said she thought the swarm I hived 2 weeks ago was absconding she said there was bees everywhere around the back door to the house. I looked out at our back door and there is about 50 to 60 bees bumping around the opening above the door. Being busy I told her that wasn't my hive absconding but scout bees looking for a home and it looks like they have picked a opening above our back door. I told here to spray a little soapy water around the top of the door they will go away and went back to work. After a couple of minutes I thought what am I thinking I got a swarm knocking on my back door and I'm telling her how to send them away. Anyhow to late she had sprayed the area with soapy water there was several scouts still around so I put a bait hive with comb and lemongrass oil up on a ladder at where they was looking to go in and waited. The remaining scouts checked out the hive but it was too late most of them had moved on. Sometime you just don't think when your busy. :-[

hehe...
I did splits today, and wanted it video'd for the website.. so had my daughter come over and went to work... So I am talking occasionally, looking at frames, trying to find the queen.... Setting frames in boxes etc.. and realized the daughter is following me about, but has no camera....
"Where is the camera?"
"I got tired of holding it so shut it off."
"How long has it been shut off?"
"Well.... since just before you found the queen.....
Opportunity gone till the next split...

Beekeepers are so funny sometimes! During my cutout, as I was looking for the queen, I was thinking if I see her, what do I grab first, queen clip or camera. Unfortunately, I didn't get to make that snap decision.

I LOVE taking pics when I'm in the hive. I think they are so educational. It's often awkward tho. I would like to have a shutter lens embedded in my right eye, then all I have to do is wink :D
