Title: Tale of 2 swarms
Post by: Yankee11 on May 29, 2014, 10:13:56 pm
I caught 2 swarms on the same day. May 16th.

Both went into a deep with foundation. I checked them today and one has 2 frames of brood already and the other has non.

The one with no brood has pulled about 8 of the frames out and are building the frames and storing nectar like they should be, honey in the corners
and across the top. They are very calm, not nervous like they have no queen. I didn't see queen. So, maybe it was a virgin queen and she is not laying yet or maybe she didn't make it back from a mating flight?

Should I just stick some eggs in there and see what they do with them? If they are queenless I guess I could combine both swarm (2 deeps) together. It would go nuts I bet.

Yep, give them a little time, if the queen doesnt make a showing combining would really boost the other new hive.
