Title: Plantain (the weed) - easing the itch and pain...
Post by: CpnObvious on June 05, 2014, 09:33:19 pm
A woman at work yesterday told me that plantain can be used to dissipate the pain and itch from bee/wasp/hornet stings as well as mosquito bites.  I tried it last night when playing with the stung spot on my arm made it itch... And the mosquito bites I was getting.  Low and behold, she was right!  I just did a quick search and came across the link below.  Check it out, it's pretty interesting:

Thank you for posting this.  I was trying to remember which weed it was to make a poultice out of for LindsayBower1 in  another General Beekeeping thread and couldn't remember the name.  I haven't had the chance to try this, but others swear by it.  It seems when I think of it, plantain is dormant.

My family has used it for poison ivy ever since i can remember, they just took the leaves and rubbed them on the spot they had it. The poison ivy would dry up in a day or two, i' ve never got poison ivy and have pulled tons of it out of the garden area and fence rows with bare hands??? Jack

Jack, although I haven't intentionally played with poison ivy in years, I know I used to be resistant to its effects. I'm not sure if that's still the case and really don't want to find out the hard way that I'm not... but yes, plantain does help with poison ivy, too.

HA!  If it weren't for this stuff my yard would have no green in it!

Just chew you up a plug of it and place that on your sting Scott. Works like magic!
I also have a yard full of it.
