Well i checked my immune system out today, a customer of ours sold her house to a young couple with two children and the boy is allergic to bee stings. The storage building has a colony of bees in the wall and she ask (begged me to get them out) ??? It was cloudy and raining off and on all day,but i went anyway, i cut the inside wall out and they had two sets of comb 16 in. wide and 4 ft. long between the studs and of course eveyone was home. :o. There must of been 6 to 8 lbs of bees home and they weren't happy when i started cutting brood comb out and put it in frames, i got all the worker brood comb(9 deep frames) and left alot of drone brood comb. I also cut out a 5 gallon bucket of honey comb, don't know if i got the queen or not? you can't see much with a small flashlight. I scooped and smoked most of them into the hive and started to leave, but thought i'd look at there outside entrance :o there must of been 3 lbs. of bees around the entrance and it was raining. I set a empty deep super under them and set the hive on top of it and brushed them off into the hive put the lid on put duct tape over there old entrance and left them there till tomorrow. When i got home i took my shirt off and looked in the mirror it remind me of when i had chicken pocks  The girls had a better time than i did. :D Jack

Wow, that sounded like it was a ton of bees. Chicken pox,

Sounds like fun! ;D

Yikes... Glad you got them out, sorry you had to suffer to get it done. You REALLY need to get a camera Jack... No.. I don't want to see pics of the chicken pox....... :o

actually, very kind of you jack, to take those bees out for that young couple and family!

Went and got the hive yesterday and took 12 more hits for my trouble >:( I also took a 5 frame nuc and glad i did, there was about a 3lb. ball of bees inside the storage shed, I had to take the 5 frames out to get them all in and i still left alot of bees flying around. When i got home i put another deep top of the hive and dumped the bees in the nuc in it (and took 2 or 3 more hits?). I may wait a day and go back and see if i can find another ball of bees. Five of the 12 that i took in the storage shed were up my pant leg on the same leg i've been having trouble with a tick bit (been to the doctor with it) and knee replacement back in Dec. Jack

So are you saying all the mean stinging ones are dead now? :D
-
sound like some pretty testy bees... really hard to tell until you get them established and calmed down. Hope they work out... If they dont, they should give a new queen a good start in life ;D
-
jb, the ones that stung me are dead ;D i never kill one for stinging me, i let them die a slow death for doing it. :D
Lazy, over all they weren't that aggressive, it was raining and the shed was dark inside i was lucky to have a flashlight with me ??? Seems like everything i done was wrong, kind of like a bull in a china closet. I don't blame them, if someone ripped the side off my house and started taking everything i worked for :o i probably would get upset. Jack

I don't disagree Jack. The weasther may have been an important factor.
Usually when I start a cut out, its pretty aggressive in the nearby area... but after a bit they seem to lose heart and begin grouping up, at which point the stings fade... Got two cut outs to do. One tomorrow and one Friday.. I hope they go better than yours did. Weather "looks" like it will cooperate....

When we start a cutout, we vacuum as many bees as we can before starting to remove the comb.
Seems to demoralize the bees and curtail all that stinging.
Also, smoking your hands and clothing down beforehand will help too.
Stay away from sucking open nectar by smoking them off the comb and then sucking bees up.
At least pull your socks up over your pants before starting. :o

Jack, We are close enough that I was having the same weather pattern as you.
All I can say is, Monday, while putting feed on some new packages, was the first time I have ever wore my complete armor and held an umbrella! The packages are located far enough out that I check on them when I can, rain or shine. I just knew that they were going to come boiling out after me when I removed the feeder bucket. Ha Ha! They didn't, but the entrances were lined with all these little eyes watching me.
