been mulling over the idea of bee's for over a year now and still cant shake the wanting. So im starting to dig and learn as much as possible. after all information is power. I have two acres of play space minus 23 chickens a dog three cats three kids and a love of gardening. Im located out of oklahoma. Im a home maker but always have some kind of project going on. also love making and canning jams. So far apricot has been my best. Been adding fruiting trees to my place as well as other goodies to grow. Part of my intrest in the bees would be for the polination the honey would just be an extra. look forward to meeting and getting to know every one!

Welcome. Hope you like it here.
I make apple, grape, and blackberry jelly and jam. I have triple crown thornless blackberries. Some of them are as large as strawberries. I can pick a gallon in about 10 to 15 minutes. Bees are a lot less work in hours, but a lot more work in severity.

We have planted apple trees and grape vines here.. having trouble with the grape vines, but the apple trees are doing great.. WILD grapes grow EVERYWHERE along my fence rows, so just figures I cant raise GOOD grapes... We have chickens as well for the eggs. They do quite well if I can keep the Eagles at Bay.
Bees will HOOK you hard.. You sound MUCH the same type of person I am as far as your property and hobbies.. so be prepared to fall in love with a BUG that STINGS!!!!
Beekeeping for Dummies is a good book and will get you off on the right foot.. But you sould be warned that there are as many ways to keep bees as there are stars in Oklahoma night sky!! DONT get discouraged by someone telling you, you are doing something wrong.. Some folks live in different climates, and cant seem to understand that THEIR way doesnt work everyehwere.. You will find that most of the folks on THIS forum will encourage you rather than point out your mistakes. Best group I have had the pleasure of chatting with anywhere!!

Welcome.
You're going about it in the right way, learn all you can before you get your first bees. And you've found the right place to learn.
Where in OK are you? I lived in Pryor for a couple years, many about 16 years ago.
