She did a great job of painting the hive, I like it.
Ken
-
Great looking hive she did a wonderful job. This is her hive then? Hers to look after, extract the honey from sell the honey and keep the proceeds minus the cost of jars, and miscellaneous expenses.
-
Nice !!!!
-
It should have been a nuc (6 frames)
GIVE 'EM 6! TOUCHDOWN TENNESSEE!
Nobody can call them like John Ward
-
A legend.
I was in a print shop in Knoxville one day working on their printer with my back to the counter. I herd him start talking and knew instantly who it was without turning around.
Best of times when I lived there.
-
Great idea Apis, she even went on the swarm call with me yesterday and filmed and took the pictures.
I'll make that deal with her today.
-
Great idea for a hive motif. I'm watching the Big Ten Network for rebroadcasts of Nebraska games, well, some of them anyway. ;) Ready for football here! Go Big Red.
-
Apis,
Deal has been offered and accepted. She now owns a hive.
Now she is asking if they will make Honey this year. ;D
Thanks,
-
I'm done with sports. I had even a Arkansas razorback fan, but with how the bobby Petrino debacle worked out and how far they fell, and all the politics behind the scenes, I have let it all go. I don't think they ever win big now.
I figure most Tennessee fans are longing for the Phil fuller days. That guy could win.
Congrats on the swarm!

Congrats on the swarm!
I quit keeping up with sports when the American and National Leagues started playing each other during the regular season, and Dale Earnhardt died, and football is just a bunch of thugs any more. So I'm over it.
PS: It's Phil Fulmer :)
-
Yep. Auto correct & i didn't catch it.
-
I really don't care for it, myself.
Now if it were orange and blue..........
-
Even a Bama fan will admit that's a very good job. Good luck to her and the bees.
-
Ok, I admit it, it looks good.
I'm always glad to see the young folks get into beekeeping. I wish I'd started younger.
-
In your area if she runs it as a single and borrows some of dads sugar syrup for fall and spring feeding she could get some honey off of the hive this year. It's nice to see them take an interest in bees and beekeeping.
-
Now that's big coming from a Bama and Gator fan. ;)
Apis, The syrup is already sitting on top. The way this bunch is pulling comb, I would not be surprised to see eggs today or tomorrow. They pulled a a ton of comb is 24 hrs. You might be right about the fall. We have had so much this summer. Fall flow should be great. Usually July and Aug are very hot and dry. This year its been cool and wet.
Wouldn't that be a hoot for her. I'll keep the syrup on them.
-
Well, Well, Well,
Look who asked me to go check HER hive ;)

Yah Buddy!! Your in it up to your EYEBROWS now! Hope you have a snorkel cause that Lady is going to get hooked! Once hooked, ONE hive is never enough!
Good job!!!
-
Thanks goes to Apis..
Apis, can you please send a medium jacket and gloves for her....
-
One proud Papa, with every reason to be.
Count your blessings.
-
I would say go with nitrate gloves and get use to picking up and handling bees with out the gloves it gives so much more dexterity. Get her picking up drones first and then fuzzy new hatched worker bees and let them walk on her hands and arms. A couple of drones on the inside of the veil with you also gets you use to being close to the bees and to stay calm and not freak out when one is buzzing in your hair of beside your ear.
I don't wear one and my daughters don't bother putting on the veils neither when they are with me, they just know if they stay calm the bees stay calm also. And if you do get stung It is no big deal.

Checked in on my daughters first hive today, We caught this swarm on July 27th,
These are all different frames. Also had a few frames of eggs. I think she caught a good one here.
I just love new comb.

I miss new comb! I stick the odd new foundation in between the old frames but it is no where as nice as having a hole super of fresh new drawn comb. The hive and laying ability of the queen looks inc readable. Nice to see the hive doing well for her.
-
Looking really good. That queen is a laying machine!
