Title: ? on hive activity
Post by: mamapoppybee on July 28, 2014, 03:17:50 pm
The past two weeks the bees are really packing in the pollen. I also noticed some round but short cells along the lower left third of a center brood frame. I did not see any eggs laid in them and my queen looks to be laying well still. I did see her today as well. Do i need to be on swarm watch with this activity?

Swarm cells are built along the bottom of the frame, vertically oriented. I am not sure what you are describing.

I think what your seeing is queen cups. As long as they are empty they don't mean anything. If you see larva/ egg or royal jelly then they are going to supersede or swarm.

This time of year where you are I would expect supersedure over swarm.
