Title: Lots of pollen
Post by: tbonekel on August 06, 2014, 07:10:50 pm
Haven't been on in a while. Not much going on and don't have a lot to add usually to the threads. We got about 4 inches of rain last week, something pretty unusual for August around here. I looked in the hives and everything seems good, but what I wish I had is a few pollen traps. I have not seen them bring in this much pollen ever, even in the spring. I have seen some uncapped nectar but not much. I wish I new what they were getting in to. This is the time of a pretty hefty dearth, but not now. I hope it keeps up.

I hope so too Tbone, I definately see more stored pollen than nectar. My hives now are capped hummingbird syrup and pollen, nectar is pretty scarce here in Cali.

Heya TBone!
The weather here has been oddly amazing..   STILL have a flow going.. not as heavy as spring, but they are storing and capping..   I have had to remove some frames of almost solid pollen to re open their brood area.. as far as I know they do not remove it if it is not used..   It is handy to have when making queens so I freeze it for future needs.    I dont remove all of it btw..   They have quite a lot of it all over the place, but when I run across a frame that is nearly solid pollen it comes out...  Kind of like capped honey frames in the brood area.. they come out as well.
