My wife and I were talking just the other day about what I was going to do with all the honey I have been extracting. I have just cleared over 1,000 lbs on my first pull.
Life has been kind to me lately, I am fortunate. Things sometimes just happen.
Out of the blue, I got a call from the Wolfville Farmers Market, probably the premier farm market here in the Annapolis Valley. It is a permanent year round market, held inside a beautifully restored building (I think a railside apple packing building that was renovated to the tune of $825,000). I was asked if I would consider becoming a vendor there. I had not even applied or made any overtures, as there is another vendor there who also sells honey among other things. I made them aware that keepers try and avoid such scenarios, but I was informed that this keeps attendance and product supply had become an issue. After some thought, and fearing they may approach "the next keep on the list" and that I might lose the opportunity to someone else, I am going to accept. The table fee is steep, but the rewards may be worth it.

That's great news Perry,
Congrats on the invite and also the huge Harvest.

that's very cool perry!!!
i think it's a smart move, 'opportunity' as you said, to accept, give it a whirl and see how it goes. the rewards may be worth it! 1,000 pounds of honey.....congratulations!!! AWESOME!!!! i wouldn't worry too much about selling that honey......you will find the market for it, and it will find you!!!

Good deal what an offer. I would crack the whip on them girls and get them producing honey. 1000lbs might not last long especially if your the only vendor selling honey :)
-
I agree! No bulk honey buyer in your future! I see lots of jars being shipped soon! Go get em Perry!

You're really doing well, Perry! :eusa_clap:
1000 lbs is a lot of centrifugal force and revolutions!

Good Grief, 1000 pounds of honey... I just can't wrap my head around that :eusa_clap:

your not supposed to Jen. Your just supposed to put a little on a spoon and wrap your lips around that. I hope I cleared up your confusion!

That's fantastic! It looks like the farmer's market has lots of event scheduled to keep people coming in the door.
Maybe it's time to think about some value added products like creamed honey, lotions, lip balms, soaps, etc.?

seems to me like your 1000 lbs will be gone in about 3 weekends, then what?

Good for you Perry I'm happy for your success. :occasion14:

Thanks for all the well wishes. I've thought about the market often since we've moved here 3 years ago, but because someone else was there I never persued it at all. I've never approached them or filled out an aplication. It was a great surprise to actually have them approach me. I've heard that at a market meeting the topic of another vendor for honey was needed, and one of the vegetable vendors quickly mentioned me, so that's apparently how my name came up.

Around here if my name comes up it would probably be because they saw it on the post office wall :D But in your case your name is getting out there and that's what counts
