I've been thinking it would be neat to sample a variety of honeys from other forum members, especially interesting floral sources. I'm not certain about the cost of shipping across the border, but certainly if any of the Canadian beeks want to exchange, I'll send you a small bottle of my honey and you can send it back with your honey in it :) That way packaging can be recycled. I am not harvesting till the end of the month, but that's not far away.

YES! I thought you would never ask... dabbing eyes :D
Here in the states I have sampled 3 kinds of honey this year. Florida, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. It's fun!
Let me check here at our post office how much it would cost to ship to you, I'll get back to ya on that :D
-
I poked around the government sites a bit and it seems like honey might be on the prohibited list of foods allowed into Canada. I'll have to call them to make sure.
-
Oh yeah,, I remember Perry saying something about that. It would be good to find out :)

Ahhhhh, yes.... the dangers of sending a honey sample to a friend. What's next? You're gonna need a passport to cross, oh, nevermind, they did that, too.
-
pete, let us know about the honey shipped to canada. i'd be happy to send you some honey from wisconsin. ;)
-
I don't have honey from my own hives to send you unless you want Jen's Ruby Honey, but I do have honey from the cut out I did which is less than 5 miles from where I live ~
-
From my distance I'd like to request that when you get a sample to taste, share it with us--at least by description, if you can.
Wine buffs excell in describing the wines they taste and smell, we beeks should learn to do it as well.
-
Apis has been a honey judge, I'll bet he could shed some light on this subject ~

Well, at least the northern border is secure. ;D
I'd enjoy a honey exchange, myself. Sounds like fun.
-
Hey Rcannon, your honey has a sweet floral perfume to it, and a lovely flavor. It's all gone.. and I'm the only one in the fam that ate it ;) 8)

Beeboy's honey has a suttle maple scent, medium brown, and poured so nicely.

The import of honey can be broken into 2 classes.
-Honey that you bring across the boarder for your personal use is limited by the quantity allowed to be brought across is 20 Kg. You declare the honey to the border agents when entering Canada. they may question you on the safe practices that honey is not to be fed to bees.
Here is the generated Automated Import Reference System report for honey.
Although it may be possible to ship import under this an Importer or broker would need to be used.

CONDITIONS OF IMPORT
Shipments must not exceed 20 kg to be eligible for exemption.
Definition of "hermetically sealed container" : a container that is designed to be and is secure against the entry of microorganisms (e.g. pouch, vacuum packed, canned, in jars).
- Honey that is shipped across is a greater hassle. The load is accompanied by an Import Declaration form and the honey must meet all the Canadian standards.

apis, i don't plan on importing honey to canada.......i just want to send a gift jar across the border...... :D
tried to google this, but next time i am by my local post office, i will ask!
-
I used to work as a window clerk for the post office and while I am certain things have changed since then all that was required a declaration of the gifts and approximate value
-
And I would love to have an exchange of honey I should have 3 different types of honey in the colonies before the end of the year

Glad you enjoyed it, Jen. I don't know what they made it from this year, it sure was different than usual.

"I used to work as a window clerk for the post office and while I am certain things have changed since then all that was required a declaration of the gifts and approximate value"
hey thanks barry, forgot you did ! and also my local po insists i mark the package 'liquid honey'......not sure why, but they have gotten after me for not doing so. ?! no problem with this.
-
Riverbee, don't necessarily have the marked on the outside as liquid honey just as a perishable liquid. Any package that you mail they should be asking you is there anything that is liquid fragile or perishable. On your declaration statement that's what you would tell them that is honey and its approximate value because of the amount of honey involved under 16 ounces you could use the small declaration form you know it's about two by two
-
thank you barry!
couple guys are kind of stinkers, if i don't write 'liquid honey' on there they do, but whatever! yes they all do ask me if it's liquid, fragile, perishable. (i do always mark as perishable liquid, they all know me and know what i am sending and all honey i send is sealed in ziplocs) these two really are the only thorns that make me write LIQUID HONEY on the package in addition to 'liquid perishable', or they do in permanent ink. i don't argue. i have sent a great deal of honey through the us mail. couple of them i really like and give them honey for gifts from time to time when i go in.
-
I just sent Honey to Mrs. Jen and was asked as mentioned..
I said it was honey, I just got an Oh OK.. and off it went.. Hoping it survives the trip.
-
COOL! ;D I just finished my last bottle from Beeboy! Great timing!
It's like christmas you guys, getting honey from our fellow beeks, you can't wait to try it on :D
Now, I am still willing to trade, buy, and ship honey to anyone that is willing to do the same. The only factor in my case is, that it won't be directly from my hive...yet, but it will be within 10 miles of where I live. And keep in mind that I make a homemade honey lotion that has no preservatives in it, and I also make homemade Honey Bourbon Vanilla for those of you who bake goodies or have someone in the household that bakes.
Now, my list of honey samples include Florida, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and now Iowa. This is a blast! :bee:

;D
Excellent year for honey here in the midwest. This year is the best I have tasted so far. Not putting down previous years, but this years honey is SO SWEET it makes you pucker. I use half the amount in my coffee that I have in the past. Light colored and very good. Rave reviews so far.

I will be extracting in a month or so, anyone wanting samples let me know email me your address and I will send it out.
