Title: Hello from North Carolina!
Post by: hamptor on August 22, 2014, 04:01:37 pm
Hi All,
I'm from Greensboro, North Carolina, and am a 2nd year beekeeper.  I started with one hive last year which got robbed out in mid-summer, then got a new package in July.   That little hive made it through the winter  (I fed them like crazy in the fall).   Then I split that hive in March, and added a new package in April.  So now I've got a total of 3 hives.   I got my first honey this summer which was so exciting!  Now we make sure we have a few hot biscuits every night just for the honey!
I'm having a great time beekeeping, and love reading the forum!
Becky

Welcome Becky Glad you found us and introduced your self. You probably know already that the woman run the site (or at least we let them think they do) so it is not scary posting or joining in.
Seriously though, Beekeeping is one profession or hobby where sex is not an issue. Some of the smartest, most knowledgeable, most talented, beekeepers I have met are woman. So to any unsure ladies, don't let some scary avatar pictures scare you from joining in the conversations.

Hi Perry,
If you're referring to iddee, he got me on the forum - after he came and helped me out with a hive that was acting pretty feisty in August.
They seem to have calmed down a little.  They're bringing in some sort of pollen, so maybe they're happier.
He's a big help to all us newbies around here!

I can honestly say that I am a better keeper than I would have ever hoped to have been if not for Iddee. Cut-outs and trap-outs were something that never even entered my mind until I "met" him. The knowledge tucked away in that head of his is amazing, and the fact that he shares it freely benefits anyone and every one coming into contact with him. And then he created this place.........
I'm envious that you live close to him.

I couldn't agree more. Other than raising a husband, and raising kids, this forum has me on the biggest learning curve I've yet to know personally. Thanks Iddee  :)

wow.. All the mean ones stung Iddee?  I didnt realize a bee could get a stinger in his hide after all the years and stingers that have been poked at him.    ;D
One of them people I am going to take time to go meet.
