Title: Start your saws!
Post by: Perry on August 27, 2014, 11:04:35 am
It took 2 trips to the mill, and for once I'm glad I own a 3/4 ton, but it's sitting in the driveway waiting for me this fall. I asked another keep if I went overboard, and his reply was great!
"Better to be looking at it, than for it!"

1,000 feet of 9 3/4" and 1,000 feet of 6 3/4", all 7/8" thick.
That pile is almost all 16' long. Should be enough to do 140 boxes of deeps and 140 of mediums.
OK Scott, Yankee11, the rest of you, if you get bored this winter and find yourselves in the neighbourhood......... :) :D

You are too kind Perry.  I look a bit different this week though......A sting above the left eye has improved my appearance some.  A sting on the face is as good as botox for removing wrinkles.  And I'm still tired looking at those stacks of lumber. ;)

Lou, did you know that there are bee venom acupuncturists out there that do Beetox? as opposed to Botox. Seriously! I now one of them! She uses acupuncture to tighten up the facial muscles, and then bvt to fill in the wrinkles. It's seems bizarre but it actually works, and the patient doesn't get any negative back lashes from the botox.  :)

Perry,
Although on a smaller scale, I bought a few boards this past weekend and started cutting deeps and mediums.

Slowly but surely I'm figuring out the best method for a cutting sequence for the RAS.  A 12 ft 1x12 board will yield two boxes and the rip waste can be used for bottom boards, inner and outer cover frames, entrance reducers, etc.

LOL!!

Whats it take to get across the border nowdays?   Last time I went into canada we got asked if we had anything to declare and we were on our way...  It was coming BACK to the US that we had our vehicle tore apart.. I came REALLY close to going to jail over that deal.. my car SAT in the lot for about 7 hours with everything all torn apart..  Naturally they didnt find anything.. so I told them to put it all back.. they said no.. we had 12 cops there in about fifteen minutes..   7 hours later they put everything back JUST the way my wife told them to..  I havent crossed a border since..

well jack the sawdust i can brush outa my hair and the sawdust in the beer can?......dang, well i will just have to spit it out....... :D

scott, what does it take to get across the border? them canadians are mighty picky.....and to their credit. been held up a time or two myself going into canada, coming back?  seems getting back into the USA is a lot easier than driving across the border into canada.  for some reason we always get the search the vehicle nod and check identity thing............
maybe it's just me with this stuff,  but every time i go to the airport, i seem to always get the very 'special treatment'...... :D

More often than not, when my luggage has gone through the airport security on my way home to Israel, upon opening it at home I find a note informing me that it just happened to be "randomly" selected for a security check.  I always wonder whether the "randomness" has something to do with my home destination. Nothing has ever been found nor removed from my luggage in the U.S.A.

In Spain my luggage was "examined" without benefit of a note and plenty was missing--not contraband of any sort--mostly gifts for our grandchildren.

that is......   disturbing...  I think its the glasses needed for close up examination that makes it so disturbing...   LOL!!!

IOWA is about central for everyone. Give me a date and I will ensure theres parking room for as many trucks and campers as show up!  I'll mow corn/beans if I need to!    ;D

Perry..  I made a phone call tonight..  I was actually looking for a better table saw than what I have, when I came across a deal on a brand new radial arm saw..  brand new... It was bought in 1984 as a gift, and never assembled, still in the box, still wrapped in plastic. Not a scratch on it..   I will be making the two hour trip to pick it up tomorrow. Saturday I go to pick up the boards and plywood..   Got to get all this stuff READY before it gets cold!

There is one piece of the upgrade that I just threw out.  On the new guard there is a plastic piece that you need to screw on and off to remove the guards when changing blades.  I don't see a safety difference without it, but the new style guard would be a giant PITA with it.

Well...  I sort of think the entire guard is a PITA so it will likely never get used..   however, the table that came with the new safety guard is of better quality than the original one, so it will be used..   The guard is still in its bubble wrap and will likely remain there, at least till I cut off something else valuable..  :P

I have a craftman radial saw since 75, if it has saw i inch of lumber it has saw 10 thousand feet, even built a home with it in 76. Lost count of how many blades it has gone through. Checked the list for upgrade and there were none, but offered to sent box to pack it in and a hundred dollars to buy form me, do they think I am crazy to give my saw away for when it go if every it will still have a place in my shop, I have never had a piece of machine that has lasted so long and still goneing so strong. Now that I have brag on it it will probity stop the next time I use it. I got all kinds of attachments with it when I bought it.
