I've gotten so much enjoyment from these beautiful sunflowers, will always plant them now.
Check out the pollen luggage on this girl! I may have already posted this one.

Even all the shapes of sunflowers are so intriguing

I planted some sunflowers but they look more like chrysanthemums, all puffy. The bees were not interested. Next year I will plant regular sunflowers. Yours are pretty, Jen.
-
Thanks Marion :) these seeds came from my daughter, I didn't know what was going to come up. Next year I would like to plant the 'mamoths', those are the kind that are the size of a dinner plate :)
-
I experimented with some sunflowers and they should open today or tomorrow. I'll post pictures.
-
nice pix jen, love the first one!

Hey Slow :) There are many varieties of suns, but just so you know, mine took several days to open fully, and then it took about 3-4 more days for the bees to gather nectar

I put out a pretty good patch of giant Russian mammoth's this year. I like to eat them. I got them out late due to work and they got one small rain all summer. They still managed to get about waist high and start heading out before the deer ate all the heads off.
If I eat any sunflower seeds this year I'll have to buy them.
-
Yah I figured I would have to plant them inside my fence, we have lots of deer as well.

I don't know what kind they are. I'm 6'1" and they're taller than me.

I'll take more pictures tomorrow afternoon. Maybe they'll be opened up more.

Nice! :) It's so cool how they all unfold differently. Mine are about 6 ft tall as well. You're going to enjoy watching your bees on them
