It sure is good news Perry, the last thing we need is more pests.  How do SHB do in the cold winters you have? I've read their eggs are in the ground near the hives, will cold kill them?

Vossejongk, the problem isn't the eggs over wintering , it's the adults over wintering in the cluster of bee's sharing their heat.

I know they have found them in Southern Ontario, and I believe in Manitoba as well (isolated cases), so I think Barry has something there.

We've had sporadic sightings of SHB here in RI.  They seem to come up with the packages.  Right now anyway, they don't seem to winter well.
There is a local grant in motion to study the SHB here.  Something like 50 bottom boards spread out to a sampling of keeps throughout the state .  The bottom boards are supposed to be equipped with some sort of shield around the edges.  I thought it was supposed to start last year but haven't heard much about it yet.
