Title: Boy, was it heavy!!
Post by: JUDELT on October 29, 2014, 01:52:12 pm
Hi all, went out to do final check and take last super of honey off yesterday! One of my three hives was 2deep brood and 3 medium supers! I left 2 broods and 1 super for winter. the 1st super was slap full of honey; capped of course and 2nd super eight of ten frames had at least 1/2 drawn. we aren't able to extract for few days, so put honey super and drawn frames in freezer. The honey super is so HEAVY!. I about never got it off the hive and tried two freezers before it fit in the 2nd. the first one was a small above the fridg., and the door wouldn't shut! so had to drag it back to the cart and go make space in the standing freezer! I have never lugged one super of honey around so much! I got to taste my first comb with honey and boy was it yummy!

They are mediums;don't think I could handle deeps!

Mine are meds as well. There is no way I could lift a deep with 80 pounds of honey in it. Mainly because you have to hoist upward to get it on and off the hive. And i think this next season I'll reduce the meds down to 8 frames of honey. Really don't want to drop a med full of honey on my foot
