You Go Yankee! Such an inspiration you are  :) Sooooo are you gonna share the recipe of these fine soaps?

Also, (shhh off topic) where did you buy your bottle of glucose?

Jen,

Not soap. Its a bar of lotion. Just rub it in your hands, elbow's etc. Then just keep in the tin and take out when you need it. Kinda like a chapstick
for your hands. Its work great.

You can get the glucos at Hobby Lobby. I got mine at a bakeing supply store locally.

We used

1/3 beeswax
1/3 Organic Coconut oil
1/3 Grape seed oil

You can use shea butter, cocoa butter.
Gonna try some with avocado oil, or sunflower oil when out of Grape seed oil.

Melted that all together then removed from heat. Add vitamin e oil and Lavender essential you oil (or your choice fragrance) and pour into molds.

I think it helps if one of the oils is a solid type, coconut, shea etc.

My son and his girl friend were just over and I tossed her one and she went crazy over it.

There were a lot of people buying these Beeswax Lotion Bars at the show today. Only 1 booth had them. She used Cocoa Butter, Sweet Almond Oil and beeswax.

Poured into a square plastic box. 2oz for 7.00 She had all different fragrances. I bought one just to compare. She said they sell great.

This sounds like something I would like to do  :)  I don't have any beeswax this year tho. Hmm, I may check with other beeks in the area.

Yankee, do you know what the purpose of the grape seed oil is? I have used grape seed oil in my lotion recipe before, it tastes very bitter...

It's just a lotion I picked. It said very good foe skin.

Next batch will be with Avocado oil and Shea butter.

I've made about 50 of these, I bet I have the softest hands in town. :)

I'm a lotion maker, and avocado oil is soooo good for the skin :D and don't forget olive oil, it's full of fatty acids and lots of nutrition for the skin same as avocado.

Mkay, so your next batch will be the three.. avacado, shea, and beeswax?

Okay. A tidbit: you can buy food grade honey 'scented' oils for candy making, lotions nsuch. Just letting you know that if you put raw honey in yours it would be nice if the label stated that it contains raw honey, or pure honey... how ever you want

I'm going to try this lotion bar down the road, I just have to find some natural bees wax from my area ~

I make these all the time!  I use them and give them out.  Never thought I could make to sell!

Here is a good list of oils, waxes, etc that will/ will not clog pores.  So, if anyone ask you know the answer!

Sold 8 more last night Crazy,  ;)

Thanks for the chart, My next batch will be with Shea Butter and Sunflower oil. Both rated 0. AND I am fixing to have all the local Sunflower oils I want,
as my bees are on the sunflower fields and the farmer is pressing the seeds himself.

So, local beeswax and local Sunflower oil.

Thanks for the chart.

Are you using wax from your hives? I don't have enough wax to make anything this year, but I do have a large bag of wax pellets for crafting. I wouldn't be able to say I made lotion bars from my hive but... ya know, wax is wax I guess

Title: Re: Beeswax Lotion Bars
Post by: Yankee11 on December 10, 2014, 11:30:28 pm
1/3 beeswax
1/3 Coconut Oil-Shea Butter
1/3 Grape seed oil, Avocado oil

Then I ad vitamin e oil and essential oil.

I add about 10 drops or so of essential oil to each batch. Kinda depends on what fragrance I am using. Still playing around with that part.

Yes, I use my own wax, almost all cappings wax.

Molds came from here. Each mold pours 5 at a time.

Well I didn't know you and Crazy both used 1/3rds each of the same ingredients... sorry ~

I still don't understand the grapeseed oil in lotion, it's bitter as he77. Anyway, I'm going to sub with something else, not sure yet, and probably 1 tsp of honey per bar. Honey is a humectant, which means it attracts water from the air and pulls it to the skin. '

Thanks for the link Yankee, appreciate it

Lol, I wouldn't put it in lip gloss.

I am trying it simply because it says its good for your skin.

LOL ~ wow, thanks for reminding me of that for lip gloss ~

I have honey in my lotion recipe but it doesn't seem to attract bees.

Hmm, maybe I should put a little less per bar, I think that would be a good idea. However, these lotion bars will used over the winter..sooo I think it would be okay.

Bought a lovely honey bee and flowers mold off of Amazon

Title: Re: Beeswax Lotion Bars
Post by: Jen on December 11, 2014, 02:51:51 pm
Haven't made them yet, don't have a mold yet until the Amazon one gets here. But I'm intriqued by the beeswax idea. Thinking I could use my muffin tin, put bubble wrap on the bottom, pour lotion formula in, let set up, then pull the bubble wrap off and see what happens. It might work out enough for some holiday handouts

Will probably use beeswax (commercial), coconut oil, and olive oil..... to start

Inspired by Yankee's endeavors, I attempted my own lotion bars last night.  I was hoping to get somewhere to get a mold and do this, but when a coworker gave me a metal mold the other day, that had been his mother's, it seemed like a sure sign.  I did have a lot of trouble getting the lotion bars out of the molds and as you can see I have some to remelt and try again.  I think I need a mold  that has some flexibility to it.  I had a little tiny hard plastic cup that I used to mold the extra and it came out beautifully.  I am very happy with the results of the actual lotion.  It feels very good.  I almost think the tore up ones could be rolled into a ball.

Very cool bakers,

after mine harden in the mold, I put the trays in the freezer for 5 minutes or so. Once frozen they pop right out.

Those look great.

Thanks for the tip Yankee.  I was going to go out and buy a mold.  I will give that a try.
I set the pan over a simmering pot to try to loosen them.  I didn't get great results.
With the scraps, I was able to roll the lotion into balls.  I now have the softest hands around. :D

Title: Re: Beeswax Lotion Bars
Post by: Jen on December 14, 2014, 12:21:11 pm
The freezer! but of course! I attempted one in a cupcake pan with a silicone cupcake cup thingy that bought at the grocery store. It's plyable and easy to use. But you only get one bar at a time. I just wanted to try it first and see if I liked the lotion.

The beeswax, coconut oil, and almond oil makes the bar more of a balm than a lotion... curious if the ones you guys are making has the same effect. I do like it tho  :)
Title: Re: Beeswax Lotion Bars
Post by: Bakersdozen on December 14, 2014, 01:06:11 pm
Baker, what ingredients did you use?
Beeswax, shea butter, sweet almond oil, essential oil for smell, vitamin e.
I have some leftover pipettes from a project last year.  That's the way to go if you are trying to pour into small molds.
Title: Re: Beeswax Lotion Bars
Post by: Jen on December 14, 2014, 02:00:34 pm
pipettes as in...?

So yours and Yankee's bars are more like a balm as well, not like lotion so to speak...?

[urlhttps://www.thesage.com/catalog/products/Transfer-Pipettes-(droppers)-Large-and-Small.html][/url]

Jen, yes, mine is a balm.  The heat from your hands quickly makes it easy to rub into your hands.  It is something you wouldn't want to place in a hot spot, like a car.
For hand cream, you will need a blender or food processor.  You will probably want to add lanolin and some rose or orange flower water.
Have done a search on line for hand cream recipes?  I bet there is a bunch.
Title: Re: Beeswax Lotion Bars
Post by: Jen on December 14, 2014, 04:15:05 pm
I see, I was wondering about big pipettes, I have little ones that fit 1 ounce medicine jars. So your's must be a bit bigger then. Ya know, even a turkey baster might work if ya go slow..... hmmmm  :D

I make my own lotion that contains oils, waters, and honey nstuff. I know quite a bit about lotions. But to make an actual lotion bar you would have to add an emusifier of some sort to get the waters and oils to blend, then prob a bunch more bees wax.

Think I'll save that search for later. I do like this recipe that we are working with.

Thanks Baker
Title: Re: Beeswax Lotion Bars
Post by: Bakersdozen on December 14, 2014, 08:04:16 pm
Jen, the turkey baster might work, but may not be useful for anything else when done.  I actually throw the pipettes away when done with them because they become clogged.  I haven't had any luck getting the contents to liquefy again.
I use equal parts of shea butter, beeswax and almond oil to get a balm.  The shea butter, in a cool state is fairly hard and beeswax is hard.  It's the almond oil that makes it soft, I think.
Title: Re: Beeswax Lotion Bars
Post by: Yankee11 on December 14, 2014, 09:14:36 pm
I think 2 of the 3 need to be a hard type oil. Coconut, Shea, Coco etc. Then oil of the 3 be the liquid oil. I think I read coconut oil melts at like 76 degrees, so your body heat would melt it.

Mine are like a bar of soap then kind melts onto skin. So, sounds like you got it.
Title: Re: Beeswax Lotion Bars
Post by: Jen on December 14, 2014, 09:27:12 pm
Yep! I use coconut oil for a lot of things, and shae on the bottoms of my feet before I go to sleep. I like the idea of those two and almond oil or sesame oil. Sesame is tauted to sink deeply into the skin, but it might not smell as good, so I think I'll give it a try.

thanks guys  :)

Yes, Yankee.  The molds make mine look like guest bar soaps.  The warmth of one's hands melt the outer part of the bar enough to allow for the hands to absorb it.
I think sesame oil make turn rancid after a while.  Not sure, just a hunch.
Title: Re: Beeswax Lotion Bars
Post by: Jen on December 15, 2014, 12:15:50 pm
That's a thought Baker, I'll google rancidity in sesame oil. Vitamine E is a good preservative for oils, and I'll be putting about 1 tsp of honey in the recipe as well, honey is also a preservative. Think I'll do almond oil for now, then maybe make a couple of bars with sesame and see how they feel and smell. Could also leave one out for weeks or months and see how it does  :D

The Container Store carries the tins for 91 cents.

I sold out of the 72 I ordered online. Had to go buy about 18 more this morning. The orders just keep coming in.  :) This caught me by surprise. Not one person batted a eye at 5 dollars.

90 of these things? I'm shutting it off after tonight.

Beekeeper Yankee is ready for a break, some down time to spend with family and recharge to ole batteries.  I cant imagine what this coming year is gonna be like starting with around 45 hives-after how this year has been started with 18. Has kinda kept me up at night to be honest..lol

Check it out! just got this very nice mold from Amazon, $14, makes three bars. I'm real happy with the quality of design.

Tried to use these cellophane gift bags to package this bar, but it comes out messy, think the tins are in order, would like the tins with the window in the lid.

I have seen these where the darker wax fills in the bee, then the lighter fills the rest of the mold ~

Just make sure you measure across your bar and the thickness. Don't go by the ounces. Those tins hold 2 and 4 oz if you poured
the liquid directly in the tin.

If that makes sense.
