Title: Proud Papa
Post by: Perry on December 07, 2014, 08:50:01 pm
My son just did his first performance in the Annapolis Valley Honour Choir. He was in the Jr. Choir last year, and even though he is a year too young, he was allowed to audition for the Sr. Choir this year, and got accepted.
I think you can tell by the video he is probably the youngest one there, but he held his part up. He is to the right of the young man that was wearing their performance attire (my son's in the black t-shirt). Boys in full dress suits, and the young ladies wear great looking gowns.
This was their pre-performance rehearsal. (Sorry you will miss this Iddee).
(3 pieces of work, less than a minute)

Lee- "I switched from band to choir my last year of high school.  More girls there..

And, I wanted to switch from choir to wood shop or metal shop, because... well, more boys there..

But I can sing! Just ask Aretha  :)

But I have always loved wood and metal work as well. I'd like to take a welding class.

Good on your son Perry.  Singing is something that he can enjoy all of his life.  Most of the sprouts and other extra curricular activities do not live past high school graduation.  That bunch of youngsters have a great sound.

I have zero musical abilities.  My church ushers make sure there is not a hymnal where I sit.  Seriously, I am tone death.

Good looking boy perry, he must take after his mother. ;D I was a master at chop sticks on the piano, i would play it over and over (loud) while grandpa was reading the paper, just to watch him blow up and start cussing.  Jack

With no upper teeth, NO, I can't whistle at all, much less a tune.

very neat perry.....music is a great 'outlet' for kids if they are so inclined, i'd be proud too!

my son could really jam on percussion, drums, etc.......he really enjoyed it, was very talented at it.....though sometimes i think he did his best at school concerts when he was mad at me or his football coach...........

It's funny. As a kid I would never have done anything like choir, it just wasn't cool. I can remember when I met my first "black" kid, and it was when I was in high school. I never saw a turban until I moved to Alberta in the late 70's.
My son has grown up with all of these things. I remember him trying to describe a girl at his school, and he was having a difficult time trying to tell us what she looked like. He was going around and around saying "you know", she was at this concert, or that event. Come to find out she was an African American girl, but it never occurred to him to describe her in those terms. Living in a University town has been a boon in that regard as well. The town swells from a population of around 4,000 to well over 7,000 when university is in. 12% of the town's residents were born outside of Canada.
The kids in the choir are almost without exception, some of the nicest kids you would hope to meet. Absolutely non-judgmental, supportive, and more like a huge extended family. None of them are afraid to "put themselves out there", and I am sure these qualities will only help them later in life to be the kind of citizens we all hope our kids will become.

It's nice when someone can sing.  When I played in the band, they always hid the microphones.  I sing like Alfalfa.

The triangle is pretty easy too..........  ;-)

Perry, if only half the things you say are true, you live in a special place, enjoy it.  :)
