Just another something.
Beeswax Wood Butter for cutting boards, wood bowls, wood spoons.
All natural, no petroleum products, beeswax and walnut oil.

Man, you are cranking out some nice stuff! Value added might take a bit of extra work, but it's where most of the profit actually is. Are you following any recipes off the net, or are you just experimenting on your own?

This is kinda my own.
I have found recipe for this using Mineral Oil. But I wanted to try and make something natural. Most all the seed oils can get rancid. Then I found
some woodworkers that use Walnut Oil for there bowls. They say once walnut oil has the air hit it, it turns hard and doesn't go rancid.
So I am using the walnut oil and mixing it with the mineral oil recipe.
This batch was 2oz beeswax melted with 8oz walnut oil. It's about the consistency of car wax.
Give it a try and see what you think. I am giving about 4 of these to some woodworkers to get some feedback.

Not sure on price yet. Need to set a per ounce price as we can get all size tins..2oz..3oz. Etc.

yankee, what size tin do you have in your pic?
also, mixed up a smaller batch to give it a whirl, and rubbed in my cutting boards....AWESOME STUFF. i used mineral oil, didn't have walnut oil on hand.
btw, had some extra left over and it went on some cleaned up leather boots........lol!!!
also wanted to compliment you on the clear label on the tin! i like it and it's very cool!

That's a 2oz tin in picture.
Here is a wood bowl I treated half of. One of the things I read was that mineral oil stays soft forever and can be washed off in hot water, but walnut oil goes on soft but will harden so cant be washed off easily, I figured that mixed with the beeswax would really last. I am anxious to here back from some cooks and wood turners I am giving some to.

i treated a couple cutting boards, a butcher block and some wooden utensils, wooden handled knives, even the grilling set, (wood handles) and a pocket knife....lol! just soaked it in, nice soft sheen. amazing difference on that bowl!
i regularly treat my cutting boards/butcher block with mineral oil alone, and with regular use, it does get washed off. the beeswax in combo with the walnut oil, i am thinking might be longer as well? doesn't matter, i will use this. thanks for the tip on the walnut oil, and thanks for the recipe!
i also know a number of folks in wood turning that would greatly appreciate this. have to fix it up in tins like yours and sell it to them....lol!!!

I am trying a lot of different things so when I have enough stuff I can have a unique booth at the markets. Hopefully next summer.
I am hoping to also offer local Sunflower Oil and Local Canola Oil. Between the Honey, candles, lotion bars, wood butter then the oils. I think
it would attract a lot of traffic.
I have been surprised at the attraction to these lotion bars and wood butter. Just today, had 2 people ask to put it in their stores. One was a shipping
office and the other a salon. I also have a lady wanting to go out and sell the wood butter. :)
I am just not there yet, I keep sold out of everything.

I know the exact feeling Yankee. This will be the first year I probably won't sell out of honey before next years harvest.
I made a bunch of candles and Christmas ornaments today and I am down to the last of my wax in the Presto Pot. I probably will be out for sure by Christmas. I have 20 kilos of creamed honey almost ready, I want to give it another week to set up so it won't easily reliquary if it gets warm. It looks beautiful, and the jar I have been letting friends taste test has got nothing but rave reviews. I may end up creaming a bunch more.

I'm telling you, if it's like the small jar I got from that bee place in Georgia, that's all I would eat. There were no crystals I could detect. Just smooth.
I wonder what it would cost to send a starter bottle to Arkansas from your neck of the woods.

I am going to buy 2 or 3 pollen traps, they are on my list with a second cloak board for raising queens.
What kind do you prefer? Wood, plastic, tray under entrance or tray under hive.
I am thinking the wooden trap with the tray under the entrance.

Our bee guru here in town sells it at our farmers market. I buy a package that is about 1 cups worth for $10. I know he sells it pretty regularly, especially the people with allergies, and the elderly like it as well. Not only that but bee guru says to put a pinch in your dogs food everyday.

Hey Yankee! This is my version of furniture polish. There is a man that makes beautiful bowls, cutting boards, and cooking spoons in the gallary where I sell my lotion and bourbon honey vanilla. His recipe for oiling his products is 2/3 coconut oil and 1/3 beeswax. But he doesn't want to make the recipe to sell, just wants to do the wood work. So the proprietor of the shop called me, and I make it to put next to his wood work.
Have already planned to go with the tins as soon as this batch of jam jars are sold. 4 oz jar for $6
Intrigued with the walnut oil :D

I have the Sundance I models (2 of them). I have yet to put them on as I am unwilling to unless someone is wanting to buy it.
They are incredibly pricey by the time they get here though. I didn't go with the Sundance II model because at the time there was talk of confused bees having to relearn to use an upper entrance versus their regular lower one.
The Sundance models are well built!

Yea, look up some stuff on walnut oil, I like the way they say it hardens as opposed to mineral or coconut oil.
S0 7.00 for 4 ounces. That makes the 2oz tins 3.50. I was thinking 4.00. The walnut oil is a little more cost wise than coconut or Mineral.

one day, I am going to get time to do some nice woodworking again. That wood butter sounds wonderful. Since I am staying in Texas and won't be putting in much garden next spring (why bother, just grow in the greenhouse, maybe I will get time)

i did some googling on the walnut oil, coconut oil, vs mineral oil. mineral oil never goes rancid. walnut oil and coconut oil take some time before they do go rancid, compared to all other oils that get rancid in a very short period of time.
i would go with the 4 bucks yankee on the 2 oz tins, amazing what this stuff sells for sold in stores.

My dad made a cutting board recently for my step-son, and liberally coated it with beeswax. I'll try to get a picture of it and post it.

Yep! for about a year now. The man that makes the wood kitchen ware said that the recipe that I follow, that I got from him, is the one used for church pews back in the day.
Yes, I like the 4 bucks for 2 ounces. Here's the thing tho, some buyers may want to coat an entire player piano, or church pews, ya know... so think about selling a tin that has more ounces to it for the big jobs.
Love the term 'butter'
The thing that I love about making this product is that it's so darned easy and fast. Smells sooo good too :)

i would do some research before applying to anything other than what it's meant for, ie, an expensive musical instrument. i do have 3 (guitars) and it is not recommended. church pews no problem. my leather boots ......LOL. i have seen beeswax used and applied to many other wood surfaces with mixtures of teak oil and other oils.
also, as a side note, NEVER let an ambitious teenager (in your absence), loose on your finished oak hardwood floors with a spray bottle of lemon oil/orange oil...........
otherwise, you WILL have an indoor skating rink with side rooms..........LOL!!!! :laugh:

I found a great use for the walnut/beeswax butter today. I was cutting boxes with my new finger joint sled. It was sticking slightly
as I pushed it back and forth over the blades. So I came in and grabbed my test tin. Rubbed it on the slides and bottom of the sled.
Man, it slid back and forth very easy after that. :)

Ok, I had a lady make me spew coffee everywhere this morning, She sent me a message and this is her quote.
" When are you gonna bring me the stuff to lubricate my wood with, that sounded really bad, lol"
I was taking a swig of coffee when I read it. Been laughing all day. Just puts a whole new meaning to it.
Maybe a new market? :)
