Title: Just for fun- painted bee hives
Post by: hamptor on January 16, 2015, 01:08:44 pm
Since it's midwinter and the bees don't want us bothering them right now (when do they ever want us bothering them?), here's something to do to give you a pre-spring project.  Google "images of painted bee hives"  or "painted bee hives".   Check out what people have done all over the world - even from several hundred years ago.   There are some incredible hives with medieval paintings on them - I think they're from the Central European region.
I'm not nearly so creative or artistic.  I'm usually just slapping a coat on as fast as I can before somebody swarms  :-\
Just a  little distraction for a Friday!

I hear ya Hampton! I have googled lots of hive art. I want to do that as well. However, last spring we were so busy getting swarms hive, and so unprepared, that I just slapped on white paint and put them out there.

For now, mine need to be cleaned, they are so full of propolis drips and poop  :D

Today would have been a nice day to have painted mine but the bees had other plans, after being in the hive for 6 days they were out bringing in pollen and looked like trying to rob each other.

I did see a picture of a hive on line and it looked like it was drawn and colored on by children.

It gave me a idea for the next market booth we do. I'm gonna set out a white hive and set the markers on the table to draw the children to come to the booth to color on the hive. While they are coloring, there parents can be buying Honey. Then I'll put that colored hives into service.

What do you think?

A friend of mine gave his 9 year old grand daughter a hive and let her paint it.

Yankee 11 - that sounds like a good marketing plan!!!   The kids will bug their mom's to buy honey - particularly if you have a bottle and put a drop on their fingers for them to taste!
