Barely got the front door open to get out. Driveway is snowed in higher than my blower. Nothings moving! Snow in front of the house is only 4' from the eaves.
I can't even see the hives in the backyard anymore, they're completely buried. Who knows what going on at my outyards.

We've been here since '02 and I've not seen anything like this since White Juan! :o
We were buried before this storm, and we've already had a foot and a half fall this morning, and it's still snowing!

Currently (1:00 pm EST) it is 26F in Ten Mile, TN and 46F in Ketchikan, AK.

Just got in. The driveway was nice and clear a day ago and this is what has fallen so far. I also haven't seen a plow in hours, but I just saw the neighbours son walk down our street, grab his dad's snowblower, and start walking up the middle of the street blowing snow as he went. I assume he is stuck somewhere down the road and is blowing a path home.

It looks like it's right over you now (or close to it)(the satellite pictures are a little behind the current time). They showed a picture earlier where the system actually had an eye like a huricaine (although the cloud tops were only 3 to 5 thousand feet high). In Boston, they even had thunder snow.

I hope all our friends (and bees) up north make it through this ok. I think I heard there's another one coming through up there around Wed or Thu this week.

I read of snow being a good insulator. I wonder if anyone has done research to show the temps in different depths of snow when the air and windchill temps are below freezing ?

I cant stand listening to cantore talk. Watching the weather map today. Another storm is moving across the country by late weekend. Weather people aren’t sure how this storm is going to track. This storm is going to hit the lower great lakes with more ice to the south. Bring it in. I’m ready for it. The sky is the limit for me to handle. I lived here for 62 years its just another storm. Let it snow. Its only February. March storms are better. They dump heavy snow. You get 1ft in march its like getting 3 ft now. Weather is starting to change here a little. I figure another week or two we should all see a big change in our weather. I see some temp in the 40s by march first.

The sleet started around 11:00 am yesterday and around noon the freezing rain started. It went all afternoon into the evening (melted down this morning, there was 1.16 inches of precipitation in the rain gauge).
The power went off here around 5:00 pm yesterday afternoon. It came back on around 8:00 this morning. Luckily, we have a fireplace and wood to keep warm. We didn't have a snowmageddon, but we had a mini-ice age. Listening to the scanner last night we could hear the road crews, power line crews, and rescue squad crews. To quote one of the guys last night, "The trees are falling like candlesticks!" The power line crews couldn't get to the downed lines until the road crews got the trees out of the roads. Rescue squad personnel were trying to get oxygen bottles to a little old lady. They were all having a hard time of it. I felt bad for them, but I'm sure glad there are people that do that kind of thing for us. Today things are pretty much back to normal. The power is back on and the coffee pot works, but the satellite dish is iced up and doesn't work right now (I'll have to throw rocks at it or something to break the ice).

Now would be the time to fix up a big kettle of hearty chicken noodle soup for the rescue squads. And a big loaf of french bread, and couple of batches of brownies ;)

Unfortunately, around here anytime there is any mention of snow or ice, there is a run on all the grocery stores, so my cupboards while not empty, are not stocked for that kind of thing. I do plan on donating when they have their fundraisers.

Jen, they would appreciate that more than you know! Having worn and still wearing them boots, I can tell you that food is the last thing from their minds. They run on adrenaline and caffeine. I've watched 8 guys split a smashed granola bar in the wee hours of the morning.
The busy time of winter is on us. Sub zero temps, heavy snow. Please if you burn wood for heat, take the time to clean your chimney and inspect it. I have responded to 3 chimney fires in the last month and half. Two ended in a good way, the other was not so lucky. I spent last Friday night putting out a house fire that started from the chimney. When the home owner called, they saw flame going up the wall. Four minutes later the attic and roof were fully involved with fire.Unfortunately it was a total loss and they had no insurance.

I doubt this was the case with the home owners you mentioned Slow, but until a few years ago I didn't realize some places are difficult to insure. The home we presently own is insured but it belonged to a bachelor uncle who figured if the house burned down, he'd just rebuild (or move into the milkhouse and dairy barn :o). The place wasn't insured for about 20 years. We found out that there are darned few insurance companies that will insure a residence that has no previous record of being insured (at least not in the past 7 years). I suppose it used to be a common fraud tactic. We finally tracked one company down that took a chance on us. Wasn't cheap but after about a year we did get more reasonable quotes from competitors.

I'm with Curtchann.. there is NOTHING like coming out of a house and ripping the scott pack off, your mouth feels like sun dried cotton, and you see a cooler of pop and water someone brought over... brings tears to a grown mans eyes!
