Title: MOVE IT!
Post by: LazyBkpr on March 09, 2015, 09:21:52 am
Oh yeah!
57 degrees today, 63 tomorrow, 64 the day after, etc, etc...   Next ten days not below 55 degrees..  so NOW its time to start burning off the winter fat!  You got it, now is the time to MOVE IT!

Standing here, coffee in hand, tapping my foot, looking out the window at the ice on the pond, waiting for the sun to warm things up enough so that I can step outside, and NOT see my breath..   Its not supposed to go below freezing at night for the next ten days, so the melt is ON..
Feeders going out tomorrow..   I am SO SO looking forward to sitting among the bees again!

Yes sirree!  Today I've been painting hive bodies, making sugar syrup, bottling last year's honey, laundry, dishes, checking in on wwb...   Love it, love it!  I feel alive and energetic.  Now to start thinking about packing for the state beekeeping meeting this weekend.  I noticed the pear buds are getting fat and I can see color on the buds of my currant bush.
Thanks for the picture, vossejonke!

Thanks Lazy! I just wasted 3 minutes of my life on that song...

I need to finish building 2 more hives myself, but for today, bees will have to wait.  Beer needs to be started.

Not a bad idea!
Drove over to Teds house and picked up a couple more sap buckets.. tapped the big sugar maple at dads.. So I have three buckets out...  not enough... if it takes 30 ish gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup.. I am HOPING I get a pint....  Speaking of Pint, its supposed to be 66 degrees here.. but its so muddy I really cant do ANYTHING, and its driving me mad...  so, I guess I have to go with Zweefers suggestion...     :P

We have yet to make our own beer. We should. Beer flows thru this house everyday ~ Is making your own beer cost effective? or like any hobby will cost more than you think?

A five gallon batch is on average $40.  That will get you a couple of cases (49 bottles or so)... So very cost effective.   This of course does not take equipment into account...

I'm getting anxious for the tundra to thaw enough so I can drive a couple 8' grounding rods into the ice before my electrical permit expires.  That could be a workout  ;D

I had to do that with some fence posts last year.  Rented one of these from a local fencing company. Worth every penny

Wow!  What a cool machine.  I never knew anything like that existed.  Almost looks as handy as the flow hive  ;D

The guy who rented it to me said they use it to drive posts into blacktop for crowd control at big events.  I will tell you it sure made fencing in frozen earth a treat  ;D

 ;D

   That is pretty slick..
I usually drive along with the truck, and a load of posts.. Take a post out, stick it in the ground as far as i can with muscle power..  Pull forward,. stick another post, pull forward, stick another... etc,,  when i have them all in place, I start the 1086, then drive along and push them in with the bucket.
Before I had the 1086 I used the excavator, and before that, I hired teenagers.  Driving a couple hundred of those posts, even in this soft soil is hard on an old guy!  Although, Iddee could probably do it just cause he is that ornery!

I run my posts at 4 ft. intervals just so I can hold a driver in each hand and drive 2 posts at a time.
