These are the hives in the backyard, that I have been trying to keep dug out. There are 5 here, and only 1 is showing. Most of my other hives are buried under at least 2 feet of snow. I have had to use a rod to poke down to find them.

Wow ol buddy. I don't know how you survive those Canadian winters let alone your bees. :o
-
Wow Perry, I was complaining about my snow. Here it's starting to recede. Cold but no snow. I can see all my hives now. Hope things turn quickly for you!
-
Maybe it will ease up a bit now. The forecast seems to have highs each day above freezing for the next week. Hopefully, it will take some of it away.
-
I am eagerly waiting the melting of your snow, so curious how bees survive this white stuff. Going to be a good and educational story ~
-
Perry, seeing those pictures makes me shift the topic from the bee's survival to YOURS. How do YOU manage to pull through a winter like this one that you've been buried under? :-\ :o

Hey Ef.
It's funny, I was sick for so long (still have a nagging cough 5 weeks later) that I never had a chance to get shack wacky. I have had enough now though. I am starting to head out to all my yards in the next few days, dig down and find my hives, and if I hear bees, they will get fondant over the inner cover hole. I will try and clear away snow on the south side to try and get them some solar gain, but the ones I've done I cannot get down to the bottom entrance as they are encased in ice, about 6 inches worth. I have to dig down at least 2 feet to even find the tops. I'll try and get a couple pics, but I'm afraid I'm starting to bore a lot of you with my winter pics! ;D

You're not boring us---you're giving us the chills. :D
Chump on propolis. Maybe it'll help get rid of that cough.

Ef- "You're not boring us---you're giving us the chills.
I am not bored at all, more fascinated !!
Ef's right about that propolis Perry, you can even make a hot cup of tea and drop a large pea size of propolis into the tea, keep stirring let it disolve. Or, put the prop on your tongue, sip and let the hot tea bath your throat.

Thank the good Lord ours has finally melted. The ice will probably be on the Lakes until June, but at least the white stuff is gone. :eusa_clap:
