Title: This is a fun video to watch!
Post by: tbonekel on March 29, 2015, 04:48:15 pm
These guys shook a huge collection of bees and filled 22 boxes at once. It wasn't a true swarm, just misplaced bees. They put queens in all 22 boxes.  It was amazing!

RB, when you move 520 hives 1000 Miles under a net, the net is full when you remove it. After unloading them and setting them over an acre of land, many bees cannot find their hive. They gather like that wherever a few start a pile. If the bees are to stay there a few days, you just go on with life and they will find a home. If you are putting them on smaller trucks, like they were here, to go right to the orchard or fields, you collect them as they did here and leave the catch boxes to gather the stragglers.

When they picked them up, they most likely left a few weak hives to catch the leftovers on the origin location unless it was cold and they were all inside where they loaded them..

That's thousands of dollars worth of bees.  Definately worth trying to catch.

That'd be pretty cool to witness firsthand!  I can't imagine too many people have that many mated queens readily available.  Great that they could do that.

iddee got me to thinking, i have seen and witnessed misplaced bees when semitrailer loads of bees, packages or hives coming up from the south overturn on the freeway.

if anyone is interested,  put your name in to volunteer to the state patrol, state troopers, local pd departments or sheriff departments to help collect bees from freeway accidents of overturned semi's carrying bees. whoever is carrying the bees usually have a back up plan, but are usually short. short on a plan or not enough help.  i have volunteered for a number of years for freeway spills of bees. it's very sad to see this.  the bees are misplaced and gather on the semi, vehicles, the state troopers vehicles, you, the packages, or what's left of the hive equipment and anything near the right of way along a freeway. unfortunately, and in the  interest of public safety and a need to get an accident cleared and traffic moving, the local fire departments spray them down.

although sad, it's worth the education.
