Title: Double Nuc Hive

Thought I would try this double nuc system some other beek are using around here.   Ten fram box will hold four frames and then using five frame nuc boxes going up from there.

Working on this model as well.  How has it been so far?  I'm changing to have each side come out the front, prefer working both hives from the back.  Also using 4 frame Nucs on top but I made a couple 1/2 in plywood 5 frame Nucs and think I can slightly adjust them to exactly fit over standard (divided) deep & still have 5 frames. I've learned you really have to keep an eye on these as  they can be busting at the seems quickly.

I have found the 4 frame nuc boxes get congested so quick like Knucs suggested. I have gone to all 5 over 5 configuration, and didn't bother with converting existing gear and instead adopted for the D.Coates design as they are quick and easy to build.

I built double nuc using a standard deep box on a screen bottom board.
Opening on each side for the bees to come and go just back from the corner. About half way down a slot to stick a Boardman feeder in.

The stand in deep for the picture, the divder was modified to sit on the frame rest after the photo. Also others made a couple of years later I stopped using 1/4 OSB.

This set up works great for me. I have went away from the 1/4 thick OSB divider board however.

Thanks for the nice photos & ideas Alley.  What sort of beekeeping do you do, home hobby, business - honey, bees?  Do you run your hives mostly as dbl nucs?  Some beeks use them as wax producers for drwn wax frames for their other hives or for extra brood, queen rearing, etc.

Your welcome. I used the double and single nucs to raise our queens in.
Used to run as many as 120 colonies in 12 out yards. Sold all that made it thru the winter this spring as I was going to have surgery and not be able to take care of them properly.
I have one colony right now a swarm that moved in this spring early summer.
