Sooooooooooooooo glad we do not have to deal with those up here (yet). I am sure it is only a matter of time, we do have protocols in place, but nature being what it is I am betting they will only slow the advance. It will change the way honey is harvested up here for sure.

No signs of SHB, yet.  They will over winter in the hives, but I haven't seen any in my early spring inspections, yet.   I use beetle traps and installed some Beetle B Gone sheets last fall.  The bees haven't had a chance to start fuzzing up the BBG sheets, yet.  But there was plenty of corpses in the beetle traps.

Hey sc, are your hives in the shade. My first hive I had in the shade and had a bad problem with beetles. Moved into all sun and scarcely see one anymore.

No not in shade anymore... Just a thread for folks to expand upon. Here is a collapse I had a few years back after they became weak after a swarm exited. And a pic of an AJ trap.

I had one hive in this bee yard that has small hive beetles.
I put a baited beetle barn in the hive, one in the top and one in the bottom
Folks had better get those protein/pollen patties out of their hives now.
The small hive beetles will thrive on them.
They were horrific here last year.
