Has anybody tried the unscented "swiffer sweeper" pads for snagging SHB?
I heard of this last year and had forgotten about it until I read it again. Stopped by the dollar store and bought a box of them to try out on some hives. $3.28 for eight pads tat can be quartered to make 32 small squares.
The article said thy cut them into 4" x 5" squares and put one in a corner on top of the frames. Had caught close to 40 beetles and 2 bees in a couple of days. The pad is fuzzy and the SHB is supposed to get its legs tangled up in the fuzz.
We will see what happens and keep you posted.

That sounds a lot like those little sheets that ledifni was talking about last fall in another thread. I purchased some after his post, put them in, but have yet to catch a SHB with them.

That idea came from an Australian poster on Beemaster a couple of years ago. That's the first time I heard of it anyway. They use Chux Wipes. I think they are called Handi Wipes over here. The idea morphed into microfiber rags and then to dryer sheets.
I haven't tried them but have heard of mixed results with them. 40 beetles in a couple of days certainly sounds like they work, though.
I personally enjoy the pressure test method of dealing with them. It's more satisfying.

I still love my oil pans for getting the shb, checked them yesterday and one hive going to have to replace the oil in soon for it is getting crowed.

This is only one of three to four sheets in two different hives. This was the worst one most of the others ranged from none to six or seven beetles. I put these in the hive on 6-6-15
and removed them today 6-18-15, less than two weeks.
Yes I have a beetle problem and I figured out why, I had left several buckets of cut out comb for the bees to clean up about three months ago, you guessed it..............a beetle factory. I got all of that mess cleaned up and beetles galore squished. Had a couple of hives that are suffering from them and one very weak hive had already absconded.

It was nothing you did, small hive beetles are endemic in many areas. Yeah the bucket might have accelerated a process that was all ready in progress
