That sounds like a bundle of fun! :) Wish I could make it. Or, don't be surprised if a hippie chick walks up and says "Hi! I'm Jen"
;) :D

Wondering if there will be a set format, i.e. meeting with one question followed by a panel of answers, or a mishmash of conversations all at once? If the former, wondering if there are any plans to record it for posterity as well as the education of us who cant drive 10 hours round trip two weekends in a row 8)

Wish I was closer, I'd certainly join ya!
I'm a little concerned about the title, though. "The Gathering"... Sounds like it should then read: "In the end, there can be only one."

That's funny Cpn! :D

;D
I am a little concerned.. Answering mail and phone calls, there may be more people here than my wife is willing to accept.. I told her maybe 30 or 40 people.. Time to break out the chain mail underwear to avoid the behind chewing!! :laugh:
I guess we will find out how its going to go tomorrow! Wish me Luck!
-
Best wishes coming from here. Wish I could be there.
PS. The Capt. came to my house today. He is awaiting your arrival.
-
Ahhh! It will be good to renew old acquaintances! ;D

What's the weather looking like?
... How many you talkin?
-
Its a bit cool this morning, but chance of rain is low, and supposed to get lower as the day progresses...
I have no idea.. I expected 30 or 40 people, but from the replies and calls I have gotten it could be 100 or more... Were about to find out... I'm off to get final prep done and get this day rolling.
Handed the wife the Camera, and got my WWB shirt on!

Whew.. what a fun day!
The turn out was around 40 people, maybe a few more as some left early and others showed up late, but a good tiome was had, despite the ugly weather.. it drizzled a couple times, and remained cold, which according to the local weather, was supposed top be sunny by afternoon.. as usual, they were wrong.. again...
Tim (Face) Wilbanks is always an excellent talker, and answered questions with style and humor, as appropriate;

Although... as Face was talking, Ted seemed to be Hypnotized and mesmerized!! Or, maybe it was his nap time?

Glad it went well, was there in spirit. Glad there weren't too many people, and that your wife will let you have another one :D

There were plenty of Ladies, and I think my wife was a bit irritated Ted and I were talking to them, but then Face showed up and we were saved! :laugh: Just kidding.
It was perfect for a first event. Excellent people. I think its a universal thing with beekeepers. There are some that argue method, but in general they are friendly and outgoing.
More of the pictures can be seen here;

What a good time! There were several good questions asked to which there were clear, in depth, answers given. I was particularly happy to see the number of new, just getting started keeps who showed up. A pleasant and varied group indeed. Looking back on it, Jen is right. There were a large number of women. I must be getting old as it didn't register at the time (heavy sigh). I even met a gal from the little town we live by that wants to start keeping bees! There was a also a trio from a town over that are new beekeepers! I have wondered for quite a while now if there were other keeps in the area, now I know!
Scott did an excellent job of orchestrating, setting up, making sure people felt welcome and involved, and not to leave it out, he did a GREAT job of answering questions. He's a natural. I can see him now, working the beekeeping circuit, giving lectures and so forth! I also want to mention Sherry, Scott's "mean" wife. Man, she was zipping around making sure there were plenty of food and drinks, that everyone was comfortable, taking photos, and all the "behind the scene" things that need to happen to pull something like this off. You both did an excellent job, and I truly thank you. My guess is that you're both a little worn today (maybe even glad it's over), but I for one hope it will happen again next year. My hat is off to both of you, take a bow, you deserve it! Ted

I'm thrilled that there are more women getting into beekeeping! :) I think that we will prove a different perspective of caring for bees. Beekeeping needs that balance. Nice pictures on your websit Scott, and enjoyed watching you and Ted working the crowd ;D

Heh well, Ted didnt mention he showed up with enough food to feed a small army. His wife went well out of her way to prepare things, make cookies, brownies etc... as well as buy chips, prepare meat to make sandwiches, send bread, mayo, ketchup, mustard, as well as a coffee maker. lemonade, AND send pickles and home made salsa etc.. YUM...
I have now begun to realize why Ted doesnt allow her to come to these things.. he keeps her hidden, that way no one will try to steal her away!! :laugh:

We've had several bee club outings at our farm over the years, but our club has grown to over 200 members. The most we had here (when the club was smaller) was 85, had 3 mentors to help going through 25 hives and answer questions, food was in our basement, the club bought the meat and bread, we furnished coffee,pop, lemonade, tea, and condiments, members all brought there favorite dish or dessert. Enough food to feed an army :o, members still talk about what a good time they had and learned. It took my wife and i 2 days to recover over that one, :D so i know what Scott went through. The club still has several outing a year, but breaks it down to 25 or 30 people at one place. Like Scott says, Gatherings are great. Jack
