Drove back to my yard about noon to check on my hives for swarming as I do multiple times during the day in May. First time ever I have witnessed the furious exit from the hive and the landing. Hived the bees and they are all settled in their new home.

LIVE ACTION baby!
hehe.. OK Blue.... that was one AWESOME video... It shows Perfectly the ripple or waves of bees I have often tried to explain to new beekeepers when they call me in a panic that their hive might be swarming..
"Does it LOOK like waves of bees rolling out the front with Billions of bees in the air?"
"Well... No, theres just.. thousands of bees flying about in front of the hive!"
"Then they are not swarming, its orientation flights..."
When the bees are rolling out the front of the hive, it literally looks like ripples or waves of bees emerging, climbing the front and taking off... That has to be the best footage of it that I have ever seen.
The only problem with the whole video.. as you noted.. the queen needs to land on your baseball cap, then you have to stand very still...

Thanks Lazy! I just lucked out being back there. I had planned on taking a book or something back there one of these late mornings to wait on such an event. And, not sure I would want them swarming on me! ha! :o

WAUW! I Love Swarms! I Love standing right in the middle of them. :occasion14: Good on you for staying right with them. Soo Magical!
I think that's what I will do when I cross the heavenly bridge... just fly away with a swarm :D
Excellent footage Blue! I filmed one of my swarms this spring but the sky was blue and for some reason they bees wouldn't show up on film :(

Very cool video! I found myself kinda hoping they would end up on your truck, or better yet, in it as I noticed the door was open around 3:20 or so :D
I am assuming you got the queen after all that as well?
