Hi Everyone,
I'd like to slide some nucs so that they are right next to each other. I'm a little concerned that they might act like a sail and blow over in any strong winds we may get. Here's the set up:

The 3 nucs on the left are the ones I'm concerned with. They are now 3 boxes high with the top box housing a feeder. I'd like to slide the nuc on the far left up against the center nuc and the nuc on the right up against the other side of the center nuc. Each move would be about 2.5 to 3 feet. What precautions, if any, should we take to ensure the girls aren't to messed up by this? Thanks, Ted

I would slide them together in the middle, and they will find their box,, or at least "A" box... But I have three tall nucs as well and they held up well through the winds the last couple nights. You can also block the entrance with something so they re orient...

I slide them over but point them like this / l \ , touching in the back.
IMO you'll have an issue with drifting/fighting with a three nucs slid together. Pointing the center one in the opposite direction will help but make inspections more difficult.
How about an L-shaped 2x4 wind brace screwed to your palettes?

Why not just put them in 10 frame boxes?

My first year I started with nucs. I also had this concern. I had a similar setup as you. If you have the material handy you can cut some 2x4's to fit under your current two pieces that the nucs are on now. You will need two of them per nuc. Screw an eye bolt into each piece. Now hook a ratchet strap to each and secure your nucs. This allows you to still move your nucs if need be. Like a 4th nucs.
