In the early 1900's honey comb was sold in basswood boxes. Today, we have cheap plastic boxes. Scoured the net for someone that sells them. I'm an old school kind of guy and would love to bring them back! Anyone know where to buy them? Otherwise, I will have to figure out how to make them.

A pic would be nice Blue... I've never heard of basswood before..
I would never put my bees in plastic. Started out with some plastic frames 5 years ago but they are all out of there now.

Not for hive, for packaging comb honey

While on the subject of plastic frames, I use rite cell with great success! It's all I use now. Wax coated plastic foundation in wood frames.

Way to go Blue to get that started again....
I use Basswood to carve heads for duck decoys. I have not seen any for the use of selling comb honey, but will check with some folks in the area. Sounds cool ! 8) Tim

Like Jen, I'm trying to picture this. Are you talking about a small, simple wooden box that you place the comb in? Would it be kind of like a matchbox but made out of basswood? I don't know if we have any such tree down here. I've never seen one.

I was wanting to try some of the Hogg boxes, but can not find them.
Here is a video of them, kind of long and slow talking but good explanation.

G3 beat me to the answer. They might be fun to experiment with and a niche market might be out there. I understand it is VERY labor intensive. I am not of fan of plastic either.
