My better half and I have been talking about planning some shorter trips here and there. I mentioned taking a Nova Star cruise out of Portland, Maine over to NS for a few days. Unfortunately, neither of us has a passport, which is ridiculously needed to go to Canada nowadays, so this trip won't be until next year (assuming we can con someone into watching our 3 dogs while we're away).
That being said, might any of your more northernly folks being willing to recommend some inexpensive, but nice, places to stay for a few days as well as interesting places that are worth visiting, if only a few days will be spent up there? Maybe even be willing to provide a tour of an apiary? I'd like to plan this over the winter, so there's no rush for the info, I'm just thinking ahead.
We're driving to her home state of Mississippi in a few weeks and I don't think we'll be far from JP The Beeman... Unfortunately, the trip is fairly short and there isn't enough time to even bother to try to contact him. I would LOVE the opportunity to meet him and watch (or help) him do a cut out or swarm collection. Oh, well... Maybe next time.

A trip up here would be advantageous for you, especially with the current difference in our currencies. :agree:
Plenty to see and do up here. Worlds highest tides (52 feet) changing twice a day, historic stuff, the beautiful Annapolis Valley which has become a vineyard haven of renown.
As far as apiaries to visit, I would be only too happy to put you to work! :laugh:

I know what you are saying about the passport thing, but sadly the world has changed and our lives of innocence have changed with it somewhat.

In Canada you can get an enhanced drivers license or enhanced ID that allows crossing into the US in a car. Need a passport to fly though. Although I could drive to the us then fly to any other us city from a us airport seen as I would not need to go through customs being that it would be a domestic flight.
US usually has parallel regulations so an enhanced ID may be possible for you if your coming by land. In BC it is cheaper than a passport quicker to obtain About an 1 hr interview and provide birth certificate and 2 other ID's one with Photo and a couple of references. It is done at the insurance Drivers license place so they take the photo. I have a license with a micro chip so the auto readers can read it at the border and the information in the data bass is available to the border agent.
