Title: Birdhouse

Looks like I have a cutout to do this weekend. This birdhouse belongs to the family of a coworker. They definitely have more bees than birdhouse. They were covering 3 sides of it and the homeowner said it had swarmed once this spring. I'll be watching this one closely for a possible larvae donor.

I cut these out this morning. Man, what a mess. The top of the birdhouse was packed full of honey and comb was built in every direction and attached everywhere. I managed to save enough comb to mostly fill two frames. It was hot (107 heat index) and you couldn't hardly handle the comb, it was so soft.
The homeowner called this afternoon and said the bees had settled down and taken to their new home. They were tickled pink.

must have been a small swarm that took up residence in the bird house. it is as small as the 4way baby nucs I have used. the bees should be happy in their new expanded home. Did you find and transfer the queen and was she laying or are they in another swarming cycle with a queen waiting to emerge or mature and mate before the hive will brood up again.

The homeowners said these bees had been in the birdhouse for three years. They said they swarmed this spring. They probably swarmed every spring without the homeowners knowing.
There was an good bit of brood. I found the queen on the second piece of comb and transferred her to the new hive. I'll check on them in a couple of weeks to see how they're doing.

We did a bird house a few years ago. I just snipped the wires holding to the post put it on top of some frames and added a empty deep above them. The moved out of the bird house and I cut the comb out and returned the bird hose to the owner.

Wow, what a tiny birdhouse! Birdhouse, squirrel boxes & duck boxes are always a lot of fun to do!

The duck box one I filmed with my GoPro.

A lot of people really liked the look of it, some hated it though ️
