Title: Trap out question?
Post by: Yankee11 on July 17, 2015, 03:46:25 pm
Have you ever had the queen come out and go into the box within and couple of weeks?

I just had ths happen and my guess in maybe hive beetles ran them out of the tree. I just set this 2nd nuc box with fresh eggs on this big tree on the 7th. Checked it today and they didn't pull queen cells and found  second frame full of larvae. Not a single bee coming out of cone.

Killed about 20 or 30 SHB on top nuc cover.

No SHB up here (yet) so can't say. Interesting thought though.

Like Perry says, "No SHB up here (yet) so can't say. Interesting thought though."
Only, for me it's "down here", not "up here".

It's the only reason I can think of this trap out ended so quickly. We set it up July 2nd. It's only been on for 16days.

There should still be lots of brood hatching out the queen shouldn't have come out yet.

I brought box home last night before they get taken over from SHB coming out of the tree. I left cone in place just in case  am wrong and bees start coming out of tree again I can set another box up there.

Hardwood, a keeper in Fla., had SHB ooze coming out of a tree about 2 weeks after setting the trap. He won't do a trapout in mid summer anymore. Yes, the SHB kill out the weakening hive in the tree or structure.

I figured.

Man they (SHB) are bad right now. If you have anything less than a strong hive, you better watch them.

Wish I could could find a fix, I could quit my day job,
