Title: Caught a nice one.
Post by: Yankee11 on July 21, 2015, 11:27:25 pm
Really nice swarm moved in.  They were not there last Tuesday evening.
I think I am gonna like these style swarm traps when it comes time to move them into a deep box next week.

I would but a bottom bar on those frames so the bees stop the comb. If set over other frames they will build it down and attach it to the lower top bar and there will be a risk of the comb tearing part way up and causing a big mess when trying to remove the frames. Or causing the use of a wire to cut the comb as is done with a Warre Hive that a complete frame is not used in. But then hives like these are not real Warre hive but are a modified sized Langstroth framed hive so are in fact a modified Langstroth hive.

I was thinking that also.

I go ahead and put bottom bars on and move them into a deep. I left them off so that the box would lokk more open to them looking up from the entrance hole.

Don't know if it matters, just read it somewhere  :)

I have often wondered the same about the bottom bars, but always "hoped" the old comb and lemon scent might over ride any objections
