Title: #1 Comb Boxes
Post by: Jen on October 04, 2015, 12:39:38 pm
This is a shot in the dark. I have an internet beekeeper friend, he's way up there in years and has been beeking all of his life. He asked me where can he get the #1 comb boxes that he used way back in the day.

Does anyone know about these type of boxes?

And, why are they different than the boxes manufactured today?

UPDATE: This is a copy/paste of this mans email. Now that I've read this latest comment from my friend, I think what he is looking for is shallows.

"Dick calls them 1 pound boxes.  They are tongue and groove and they fit flat in the container... Does that make sense?  They are for collecting comb"

This might be what he is talking about, just a guess.

Hi G3 ~ that's what I was thinking as well, I feel like he's asking for mediums and shallows, but he call the 1# boxes, or 1 pound boxes.

G3 nailed it.  These are set up for comb honey production. each about a lb of comb honey.  Last I knew you couldn't get them from Kelly because they was back ordered

no, each little split box weighs in at a little more than a pound each, there are 28 of these boxes in a super, which is only 4 3/4" tall, smaller than a shallow.
