Finished in time to take the wife out on the river before she leaves. Hoping it will be a good weekend of fishing!
-
I like it! Complete with cooking facilities too!
-
looks nice Scott What size of deck? 8' X 20' with a 40 hp?
-
Looks good my friend, nice job!
-
Nice looking rig. We don't have rivers around here deep enough to float it.
-
It was designed to run bank lines at night. I still have to order the big LED bar that will go under the front, but the live well for bait is in front of the console and easy to reach when pulling in lines, the wooden covers with no cushions on top of the live well are for cutting said bait etc... The deck is 14 feet by 8 feet wide. Not huge, but the ROOM available on it compared to the space available on my Bass tracker is a VAST improvement... SIZE matters in the river.. I needed to keep it small so I could maneuver it when the water is low.. so it has 18 foot pontoons, most of which stick out the back to support a big motor... Currently it has the 25 horse Evinrude from my Tracker on it, I have a 50 Horse Merc having the lower unit rebuilt that will eventually get mounted so I can return the 25 to the Bass tracker.
I have been running rivers all my life in one boat or another. The disadvantage most boats have is ROOM.. you have room to SIT., and fish.. TO spend a week on the river without leaving, you have to have a camp site, and that limits you to a specific stretch of river, and it also means you have to climb the bank.. often that can be a climb of ten feet straight up. You get muddy and dirty, you have to carry fuel up and down, along with everything else to set up your camp site etc...
On RiverRat.. I have my fold out chair.. I dont have to climb anywhere.. I take out my light weight sleeping bag and crash in the reclining chair... An advantage of that, is I can keep right on fishing, wrap the line around a finger or toe, and HOPE you dont (DO?) tie into a 60 pounder while asleep.. I have an 8x8 fold out awning that fits on the deck if its drizzly and tarps to seal it if necessary.. self contained camp site... I can pull my lines if I am not getting any hits and move to a different spot without breaking camp, because I take camp with me.
Smaller cats get sliced into fillet's and grilled or fried. Burgers, Brats, all are easily possible.
SO.... with the wife heading out to a new job 1200 miles away... Guess who is going to be spending several miscellaneous weeks on several different rivers next summer?

Um, I'm small, take up very little space, like to fish, and quiet as a mouse. Just sayin'.

How can you tell there is a lawyer in the family!
-
LOL I was thinking the same thing Perry.. thankfully she didnt delve into legalize.. I wouldnt have understood it anyhow, and perhaps would have thought it meant something that would have gotten me thrown into the river....
Dunno Ted... she mentioned Sammies and Spirits.... Shes also WAY better looking than you are...
-
Yeah, but I called "dibbs" and EVERYONE knows calling "dibbs" is a sure fire win in court!
-
Ted, after eating his own cooking all winter, Scott will be taking the best cook. All else is totally mute. 8)
-
Iddee is a deep thinker. I had not thought of eating his own cooking all winter. Here's hoping Scott is a much better cook than I am. Like most men, I cook breakfast and barbecue.
It is a neat looking and well conceived boat. As a boy, I fished the rivers quite a bit, but I haven't wet a hook in a river in probably 30 years. Do you have storage space for a couple of cases of mosquito repellant?
River water is soothing to the soul. If I wasn't so danged old, I would enjoy a trip on the river.
-
..........................
you guys are too funny!!!!
-
Are there any river-way connections from Iowa to Maine?
-
Fear not my friend Ted. This boat has enough room so that you can ride shotgun. Still enough room for a couple more. Anyone that comes up and wants to run lines or just spend a day on the river is ALWAYS welcome.. provided I am not finding some excuse to drive all the way top Maine..
-
I'll show up the same day as Riverbee ~ Let's see how you handle TWO beekeeping women on that dandy barge ;) heh heh heh
-

I'm too old to be taken advantage of by lovely ladies, So I will presume all the spirits are just so they can laugh at me... I'm good with that! Should be a lot of laughs! Ted, I get to preview the vids before they hit YouTube!
-
Before youtube, maybe.
Before the forum, NO, NO, NEVER!!!

Update.
The ol riverrat has been revitalized.
50 HP 4 cycle Suzuki motor. Brand new, dunno if that was on there when I posted this thread.
First day it is supposed to be over 60 degrees and not raining were headed to the Mississippi River.
The new grille is on it's way. Once that is secured to the new rear deck it will be complete. Fold out chair in place, my sleeping bag is in the storage compartment. Me and Knitro the bee dog will be FISHIN for days at a time!
Anyone who wants to take a fishin trip is welcome. I have ONE spare bed and a couch, oh, and a roll up queen size foam pad for emergencies.
Cig lighter and 1000 watt inverter to charge phone, plug in laptop etc, etc.. I can't wait to break my current record. 62 3/4 lb Flathead. Looking for 80 plus pounders this summer!
Hope you're ready to go fishin Ted!

scott, that's pretty sweet!
-
Nice looking set up ..........Looks like you are going to have a great summer! Have fun and be safe!
-
Count me in Bro! I'll leave Helene here as she's one of those fishermen that messes about chattering constantly and annoying you, all while catching more and bigger fish! She's freaky that way. And we both know THAT'S no way to live. Ted
-
I thought this thread was going to be about our Riverrat. I wondered what he was up to.
Well, Scott. That looks like a whole lotta fun! Wear your sunscreen.
-
Ayup my friend Ted... I know exactly what you are talking about! My wife is the same way... She even makes up new rules, like, if I am a fish behind her, and catch a SMALL fish, it only counts as HALF a fish...
WHAT? HALF? It isn't HALF! It is a WHOLE fish!
However, when SHE catches a minnow it counts as a whole fish... 31 years into this marriage and I still haven't figured out the rules of engagement.
-
Where's the head on that thing? ;D

seriously funny, loved reading the comments about the wives, bakersD tellin' ya to wear sunscreen, perry's comment about where the head was on that thing....
BUT most of all THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT......... :D
i'm a wife, i don't chatter....he chatters, i fish, and he annoys me when he chatters and yaks at me about putting sunscreen on my schnoz..... we both catch some pretty good fish, sometimes mine are bigger...sometimes i lollygag and look at the scenery and the guide says FISH ON!.......by then it's too late......i get teased about it. i start making marks in the boat for all the fish i missed lollygagging, being quiet and not chattering, and dabbing my nose with sunscreen............. :D
and btw scott, our rules of engagement change frequently.......... :D
-
heh I noticed. Sometimes not knowing the rules lets me be sneaky... but not often.
I do plan to come up that way this summer and see you and Zweef. So be ready... You are welcome to come down anytime too, it isn't THAT long of a drive!
Ted! I am going to be putting in at Toolsboro, so i have to drive right past your house to get there, Go get your fishin license and stand ready bro!
