So we have cedar, elms, and now maple pollen. Did an open feed today also peeked in top and they are drawing frames. When standing in front would smell lemon real strong. Not sure if the queen is making strong demands or if she is calling the fellas by? Just hoping no repeat of last year.

Nothing in bloom here yet :no: the Maples, Willows, dandelions,and cat willow will be the first. Shouldn't be long now, the temp. this week is in the upper 50's and 70's. Jack

Things are winding up here in Central Arkansas too.
Elm, maples and a few spring flowers are blooming.
The bees are laying and have a lot of capped Brood.
There are also Drones walking around in the hives.

Nothing in ky except a little henbit, and not much of that. River maples just starting to make buds. We are actually a little behind the past few years by a week or so. I think about normal for a change. Not much brood going on. I had to go through a hive today that the mouse guard was off because of varmints and a mouse had found a home. The queen had just started laying a little.

I have begun grafting here and yes earlier than 'normal'*. I saw the first dandelions blooming today. We have had some small show of flowers for the past couple of weeks with some good pollen coming in. It has been an unusually mild winter and there is a bit of local gossip that some of the newer beekeepers are seeing starvation..... I suspect largely due to the mild temperature in late fall and early winter.
*the one thing you can count on in Texas and the rearing of bees is there is no such thing as normal.

Jack, are we close to the same latitude? My bees are bringing in pollen from silver maples, maples and elms. Light yellow and greenish yellow pollen. The willows have already peaked and are showing green foliage. Dandelions are around the corner.

B12, i'm not sure? but from what your saying i think your at least two weeks ahead of us. The temp. has been in the 70's F for the last three days so things should start happening. I seen the river Maples and Willows budding out yesterday, we have a huge cat Willow ;D (good one iddee :D) that the bees dearly love that should be blooming out soon. The temp. is supposed to drop back to normal next week in the 40F to 60F range, we could use some rain. Jack
