There is bees in every hive . I have not lost a hive in over a year. I guess must been time of day I took the pics . I would be pretty lame to come here and post pics of my empty hives :D One thing I don't have a shortage with is HONEYBEES.
-
Uhhhhhhh!
I'll post pics of some of my yards right after I finish downloading photoshop! :-[
Seriously, some of you folks have some nice looking yards. Marbees, your first pic, even the same colour as mine!
-
I am TOTALLY with dirt road on this one. you guys are way to fancy and proper for this old hillbilly. I do try to slop on a bit of fresh paint from time to time just to dodge the slumlord image.
I am guessing all you folks bee gear is also pretty and white? 8)

Nice! A hobby or for sale?
Nah I'm just playin with them. Those are 2010 models. Out of some of the best tangerines I've ever eaten.

I really don't care what somethin looks like as long as it does what it's supposed to. :) I'd rather live under a tin roof while eating good and being happy than a golden castle starving to death and miserable.
-
Marbees the 1st yard all hand holes the 2nd yard only end cleats which do you prefer? I like those Canadian hive stands, they are what I am use to. nice looking yards.
-
Glock, looking at your beautiful apiary, it's apparent you know how to take care of your girls. I took note of your electric, bear proof fence. Your apiary is a work of art. It makes me wish I had the energy and imagination to follow your example. hmmmm maybe this year!
-
Thanks apisbees, these are old pictures, my yards look different now.
I prefer cleats on supers much easier on my back when harvesting.
On brood boxes handholds are better, not much manipulation of boxes, and easier to wrap up hives for the winter.

If I was starting from the beginning, I would probably go with cleats as well. Simple, strong, and easier to lift.

I don't think so

But my ultra breeze cleans up nice at the end of the year.

""But my ultra breeze cleans up nice at the end of the year."" Now this is a hands on looking bee suit! Cool pic as well with it hanging there in the 'breeze' ~wink~

This is my humble apiary, took three seasons to get this hive up and running healthy and strong. Newbee ignorance and not a proper mentor. Determination pays off.
The little hive to the left was my first hive, it's called a Patio Hive. Haven't heard of talk of this style hive, thinking it must be the beekeepers creation from where I purchase it. It served me well for the first two years. Then it swarmed three times last spring, hence the acquisition of the langstroth engulfed in a swarm. Such an amazing experience to be standing right in the midst of a swarm.

I have only seen one swarm leave there hive and it was out of a DBL. nuc they swarm fast now my wife has seen
2 in one day and I know they where absconding {DBL. deeps }that was when I was treatment free and had high mite loads.

I have power lines that run through my property and the right of way blooms with wildflowers in the spring and goldenrod in the fall (that's what got me to thinking about bees in the first place):
