I'm driving home with my wife, having taken the dogs to the off leash park, when I pass this bee yard and see a beautiful swarm hanging in the tree. I made a mental note that it was late (6pm) and they would probably stay put for the evening. I went home, got my truck, and went back and caught them.

I knew this keep had another yard a few miles down the road and though I would drive by that one as well, and sure enough, another swarm hanging in a tree, this one was higher. I had to drive the cab of my truck under that one and stand on the roof to catch it.
As I was driving home I thought to myself, "what kind of a crappy keep lets his hives swarm like that", I caught 2 of them in less than an hour?

N-I-C-E swarm Perry. I got one that size yesterday and it was gone this morning.... :o

Well Perry... I humbly admit I was a crappy keeper this spring right during swarm season, unintentionally tho. My two grown kids had unexpected surgeries (not life threatening) and a nephew fell into a coma in the hospital, all within 3 weeks time. I was out of commission to do anything else but take care of people for a while. During that time 5 swarms hit the skies. I retrieved 2, called my bee friend in town and he retrieved 2, and one disappeared over the horizon. If I hadn't had my bee friend, 3 swarms would have gone unintended.
Bothers me when swarms fly off, you never know what danger they will get into.
Your two swarms today?... Lucky them that you drove by ;) 8)

HA......had to back up and read that heading again..thought it read CREEPY KEEPER
Was just wanting to see the pic.
Good catch.
Caught one that size myself and it filled out two deep boxes and two medium supers of honey....WOW!
-
Keep driving by his yards in the afternoon Carry extra supers, Bottom Boards and lids you will have the queen issue losses made up in no time.

Could be a crappy keeper.
Or stray swarms attracted to the yards by the smell of the hives ?
Nice looking swarm.
-
K, now ask him WHOS bee yard that was?
-
I think LazyBkpr got it. ;)
I guess my attempt at humour was misguided. I thought with the embarrassment smilies folks would realize those were swarms from my own hives, and the yards were mine.
I didn't gain anything except use up some family time and ever scarce equipment is now tied up.
-
I got it Perry, you wouldn't talk about anyone else like that except yourself. Glad up gotem. Like Riverbee said free bees. And what a great Imogene.
-
In 4 weeks they will be strong nucs ready to sell.
-
Ha! Well for pete's sakes... I should have caught it... I was thinking that this crappy keep was ill or something and couldn't get to his hives.
But still, lucky bees to be caught by Perry :)
-
:oHUMMMM I thought well If that was my yard and I drove in to see some one taking one of my swarms the shot gun that I carry may have been put in use.
Like they say Chit happens even to the best of them.
;D Al
-
You're right, Al, and I know Perry wouldn't. I knew it was his yard as soon as he said he caught them without talking to the beek.

That must be the same omniscience he uses to commune with the bees.
-
I was wondering how much it was going to cost to repair the cab top of his truck that he stood on to get one of the swarms :D He probably could buy several nuc's for what cost to repair it.  Jack
-
Its a bee truck Whats there to repair? The bees don't care what his truck looks like.
-
But can he still set in the drivers seat without his head against the cab top.  Jack
-
See, that's the difference between my bees and Jack's. My bees don't care what my truck looks like, and his bees obviously don't care what he looks like.
-
If not by the time he drives down the next bumpy road into one of his yards, He should be able to after pounding it back out with his head. It may even knock some sense into him to carry a ladder. Falling out of a tree last week Climbing up on the hood of his ruck this week! Whats he going to so next week?? I really am sticking up for you Perry.. Or trying to,, but at times you make it hard to!!
-
Thanks Keith, I think.

"K, now ask him WHOS bee yard that was?"
lol scott!, i was waiting for him to fess up!!!!
"I guess my attempt at humour was misguided. I thought with the embarrassment smilies folks would realize those were swarms from my own hives, and the yards were mine."
perry, everyone knows you too well, if you caught someone elses bees, you would have to tell on yourself!............. :D :D :D
i guess i should have said, that crappy keep needs a good ol fashioned spankin'...........(https://worldwidebeekeeping.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1056.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ft373%2Friverbee1%2FEmoticons%2FPaddle%2520Spanking_zpsqv4pxkcu.gif&hash=bfcfb3b34a803f2d328da75331d5d2e2c53b58bc)
............. :D :D :D
-
What a terrible high price to pay some one to lay in the seat and push the cab top up with their legs.
;D Al
-
You did good Perry at lease you got the bees and that is what counts.
Ken

heh, I had to read it twice, and the same thoughts occured to me... Perry in someone elses bee yard catching swarms?? nope.
I bought a bee truck a couple weeks ago... Not a ford guy, but for 500 dollars a little 4wd ranger was too hard to pass up.. 4 cyl, 4 speed, 4wd... needs a new drivers side main spring.. picked one up for 40 dollars at the salvage yard.. only other thing it needs is an AC belt and some R134 pumped into it.. The rust was free, and I already tested the cab to see if I could stand on it.
