Title: Shelf Life Wax Foundation
Post by: 40 Acre Bees on June 15, 2016, 07:59:57 pm
Just a question: we may have an opportunity  to get our hands on some beekeeping supplies that have been stored in an old honey house for years.  There is supposed to be a few boxes of new wax foundation that was never used, but I'm thinking it could be 20+ years old.  Is there a possibility it could still be good.  Just curious

I just used up some of the very last foundation last year that was 20+ years old. It was perfectly fine with the exception of it being just a little brittle, not bad mind you, just seemed like some of the oils in the wax were not there. Bees pulled out comb just like clock work.

Thanks for the input,   Could be interesting the barn fell down years ago but the honey house still stands.  No one has been in there for over 20 years.  We will let you know what we find.
