I am hoping to build an Ulster observation hive this week...
anyone have any good plans, or should i just wing it?

Papa keith build one and worked up a set of plans they can be found back on beekeeping forums. Here is a link.

You need to modify the length or add a build out block to support the displayed frame. it is all discussed in that thread. Good luck with it.

Yeah I couldn't see the forest through the trees on that one. :eusa_doh:
Like apis said, as long as you build out the top supports so that they can actually hold a frame you should be OK using what I drew up.

No plans, I just winged it.

Just make sure you give them plenty of ventilation. Mine has a full bottom screen and 4 1" vent holes in the top. If you have questions or want better pictures, just let me know.
