Title: Had to share this with someone
Post by: neillsayers on September 14, 2016, 11:10:33 pm
Found this pic in an article about entomologists studying bee behavior. This is the funniest thing I've seen this week. :) Many one line jokes came to mind but I thought I'd give someone else a shot!

Looks to me like she's bringing home a birthday cake to her one week old sister!

Don't look like she would fit in the hive with that thing on. What's it supposed to be a gps tracking device or something?

I've seen several scientific bee vids like this before. More than likely this bee's antenna is a tracking device to learn how the bee flies out and back to her hive. Scientist's have learned that the bees eyes are faceted, like a diamond. The tracking device teaches how the bee memorized her journey everyday, how she gets to her field of flowers, and then turns around and makes it back home to just her hive, gets cleaned off from the other bees, and heads right back out again . It is said that the bees journey, or her highway, to her field of flowers is right down to an 1/8 inch on course from her last journey she just came home from.

It's from an article in Bee Journal. It's a radar frequency transmitter.

My one liner is:

"We come in peace, take me to your leader."

My thought was that the antenna was rigged to a transmitter and the little packet on her back contained a camera and GPS system that broadcasted geological and weather related info to the "mother" ship.  Albans are among us!   :) :)

Seriously, the CIA has experimented with using robotic insects to gather information.
