I had to bite my tongue in order to not reply. How can someone love dogs so much and post garbage to his fellow man?

I thought you folks took baseball seriously down there? :P :D

Football (the kind with the funny shaped ball, not the one with a round ball) is the national sport of Texas!
And it's usually college or high school football that gets a Texan excited.
-
Football is closer to religion in Texas, not baseball. Although from Wyoming, we fit in real well here. 90 degrees F yesterday. 1.5 inches of rain since 0500L. :)
-
A little better (I guess). :D

As a follow up to Lee and Wondering man about FOOTBALL in Texas, at least in my area:
We had homecoming last evening. There was a pep rally at 11:00 a.m. at the retirement home, another one down town at 1:30 p.m, a girl's volleyball game at 3:00 p.m., the crowning of the homecoming queen at 6:30 p.m., and the varsity football game at 7:30 p.m. There was also a coaches and players morning at the elementary school prior to the start of school. The players go open car doors and help escort the young kids to their classes. In all, it was a FOOTBALL day. We love it.
Before the game both schools play their school songs and both crowds stand for both songs. That is followed by "Texas our Texas" played by the host school's band, and we all sing along. Then we have a prayer, sometimes by a Catholic and sometimes by a protestant. We are all one of the former, but if a Jew or Muslim is present, which is unlikely, we still pray. No one is required to pray, but by the same token, they are not allowed to interfere with us. Then we play the Star Spangled banner and sing real loud. We then play football. The bands march at half time, and both crowds applaud both bands. After the game the bands play the school songs and the players meet in mid field for a closing prayer and some brief comments from some of the coaches and players. We leave the field in the best spirit of sportsmanship and travel our different ways home. At the end of the event, we are all good friends, and win or lose look forward to tomorrow. I wish all of you could come be a part of this.

Boy howdy that finger was bleeding.

I've been missing the games lately cause I'm already in the sack, but the way Toronto is playing this series it doesn't sound like I'm missing much, the wheels have fallen off.

FOOTBALL?..............it is now HOCKEY season! (oh and the world series).............
sorry you boys in the south really don't have REAL hockey like we do here in the north............... :D :D :D
yeah, yeah you have pro teams playing on refrigerated ice that came from somewhere else ............ :D :D :D
-
You have to have ice to have hockey, don't you?
When you get 30 minutes of freezing temperatures a year, you don't get ice!
-
@riverbee:
I'm glad you like hockey. The players show amazing agility on ice. They are the world's best skaters. As per the game itself, it appears that two teams knock a round object up and down the court until on rare occasions someone hits the puck into the net. Whoever lucks out and hits the puck into the goal more often wins. :) Really, I don't care for hockey. It's also hard to think of sportsmanship when each team has a "designated" fighter on its roster.
Again, I'm glad you have hockey and that you enjoy it, but don't feel any apathy for me being excluded.

Here's what's up.
Dana, my bride of 57 years, aka, Dr. M. the school superintendent of De Leon, ISD in Texas, at a "trunk of treat" event last evening. We parked the SUV in the church parking lot and let the kiddoes come by for "trick of treat." This gal is 75 years old and working every day as a school superintendent. I'm fortunate to have spent my long life with her. I almost said my "adulthood," but I don't think I have achieved that status yet. :)

You have a beautiful wife LS, no wonder you've been married so long! ;)
-
Lazy did you have a costume for the event?
-
Yes, I'm in the skeleton suit. :):) No, I didn't have a costume. I'm so ugly I don't need one. :)
I let my wife do the "trunk or treat" thing, and I just ambled about among the other trunk or treaters. It was a fun time. Many of the costumes were extravagant.

You and I both had to find saints, Lazy, to put up with the likes of us for all those years. Hope you and her have many more together.
-
The little fellow in the skeleton suit had a deep voice for a youngster, he was a hoot, and the little girl had the same colors as my wife's hat and shawl. I thought the kids were the cute ones. The original thought of the post was to show how much fun we had with our local kids. But, I did marry a saint, as I am difficult from time to time.
