We here in upper northern Cali have been in the 30-40's for a month now. I think it's early but hubs says not :P
-
Balmy 37 here 28 degree windchill, spring like here compared to there. ;D ;D
-
Today is cool, with a high in the mid 60's. We'll reach 80 Saturday afternoon, followed by a dip to 45 after midnight, and a freezing 32 degrees on Sunday night before warming back up to the low 60's.
We are changing our clothes almost hourly down here to keep up with the weather!
-
Thanks for the invite but I think I'll head to Georgia instead....brrrrrrr
-
ZERO
Minus 5 tonight, then 6 to 9 inches snow over next 24 hrs.
-
Would you believe 29 this morning with a high of 53 and in the morning they say a 45 low and 70 by 4 PM. No wonder I have a cold.
Oh Les what part of Georgia are you to visit if you don't mind my asking, other wise say it is none of my business. Just hope you all will have a safe and enjoyable trip.

-22 F is the forecast low for tomorrow and that's a real temperature. With the wind, we'll have some -50 chills somewhere within a 100 mile radius of me. Suppose to warm up some next week so I plan to resume bowhunting deer. I did manage to finish nailing 400 deep boxes together and get a paint sprayer ordered. Mostly inside stuff but I spent most of the day blowing snow but I was inside the cab of my forklift most of the time.
Our winter came on hard and fast. I have a diesel UTV and the fuel has gelled twice in that machine, once in my forklift and in my bulk diesel tank. I think I have everything "flowing" again!! ;)
-
Somebody forgot to buy the anti-gel.

Chip, your mention of -22 and hunting reminded me of one cold Elk hunt in Montana in the early 1970's. It was -20 during the day. We slept in tents. Oh boy, those nights were long! The heat from the Elk carcasses in my Travelall iced the inside of the windows til it was hard to navigate home. The Travelall looked like this one...A little newer then of course.

Those were great vehicles Lee! Your story reminded me of my best friend who is a veterinarian. He started one of the first embryo transfer services in the country. His job required that he palate cows; from their backsides. He often said that the warmest place on a farm in winter was up a cow's ..... You get the idea ;D
I added antigel to treat 500 gallons when I had the bulk tank filled last year. Must not age well. I pushed the utv in the garage and added a little seafoam the first time it gelled. Worked good till it got LOTS colder. Pushed it back in the garage yesterday, added diesel 911 and more antigel. I think I'm back in business :)

Low of 42F tonight. 11F tomorrow night! :)

i don't like the minus numbers and i sure don't like the 'frigid' description in the weather report as to wind chill factor...........or 'feels like' MINUS 32.........
-
God bless you folks. You're tougher than me.
-
lol rc..........not tough, just plain crazy as to why i live here.....right now wind chill factors are at -40 d F..........how crazy is that? that's chip's world in north dakota !
-
Thermometer reads -9 (temps still dropping). They say the wind chill is -32. Went out for coffee and a smoke with the dog and we (dog and I) decided it didn't feel a bit colder than -25 ;D. Ted

It was 12° here this morning with a 20 mph wind. The weather gal reported this to be our coldest night in two years. This is about as cold as it gets in our area. I realize we are sissies when it comes to cold weather, but dang it is miserable cold here this morning.

Somebody said it was so cold here yesterday that the chickens were lined up at the Kentucky Fried Chicken place to wait for their turn in the deep fryer :)

Son and a friend fished Devils Lake yesterday and this morning. Son fell asleep and his friend called 911 since he wasn't responsive. Ambulance took him to the hospital after sledding a half mile to get him and sled him back to the ambulance. Carbon monoxide poisoning and he was 98 F when they got him to the ER. He's home now and safe. My wife and I aged a few more years when he called with the news. Last night was the coldest of the year. -23 here and colder where he was fishing. A happy ending to an awful morning.
-
That's really good news about your son. Our children are our greatest treasure. Thank God that all was well. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. We should all be thankful for the great emergency personnel that we have in our country. Again, I'm so glad for you.
lazy
-
Thanks Lazy. We're thankful and feel blessed that things worked out today. He's 30 and my wife wanted to go take care of him for a few days but he talked her out of going. Carbon monoxide is a bad one for sure and one that gets a few of us every year, especially in the colder parts of the country. Not sure about the hypothermia but I'd guess the half mile sled ride on a stretcher didn't help when we were in the -20s. Just happy he's home and safe.
-
Up here there are always one or two incidents, especially during power outages. Generators are fired up in garages and such and the stuff seeps into the house.
-
Chip, I'm happy to hear how things turned out. :)
-
Thanks Lee. Son learned a valuable lesson so hopeful he'll be more careful. Today is his last day of rest before returning to work. He says he feels pretty close to normal today. Yippee!
-
i read this, this morning chip............scary.......! i didn't know what to say.
carbon monoxide is a silent killer like lazy said........... good thing your son's friend was attentive!
good to read that your son is doing alright!
propane heater in an ice house/tent chip?
-
So glad this has a happy ending! :)
-
River, they had a propane heater and the fellow he fished with was closest to the door on the fish tent. I suspect they sealed the tent off with snow more than they should have. When it's -25 or so, you notice leaks under the tent more than normal. I think he has a new appreciation of the value of ventilation now ;)
-
Chip, I reread your remarks about gelling fuel. If you can buy some Jet-A fuel you will be golden. It is basically diesel that won't freeze. :)
-
I remember that stuff Lee. Years ago, I spent 3 weeks on the tundra 45 miles from Churchill, MB. Up there on a long-term goose study and the fuel was for helicopters I think. We used them and also fixed-wing planes (mostly Otters) to shuttle people and supplies to camp. Fuel was flown in and was in 55 gallon drums. Also had gas in 55 gallon barrels. Gets colder there than here. Snow drifts were 15 feet deep around our cook house and was still there when we left 3 weeks later and that was June!
-
it's a good thing your son's friend was near the door or they both might have passed out. glad it ended well. the few times I've ice fished the tent or shack had a built in flue outlet. a friend of mine lost both of his elderly parents to c.m.. they had a garage in an open basement & his dad left the car running.
